[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] Ascon specialist SG CO., LTD.(255220)(SY CO., LTD.) announced on the 28th that it has completed the installation of a mock-up of “EcoSteel Ascon,” an eco-friendly, high-durability steel slag asphalt, at the construction site of the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster ( SK hynix(000660) ).

SG CO., LTD. plans to transition from the conventional asphalt currently being supplied to the site to EcoSteel Asphalt and continue to expand its supply volume. The Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster, with a total project cost of approximately 122 trillion won, is a massive semiconductor hub that will house four SK hynix semiconductor production facilities (fabs), as well as a large-scale complex for materials, parts, and equipment partners, and supporting infrastructure. Given the nature of semiconductor manufacturing processes, which necessitate strict control of microscopic contaminants, and the frequent passage of heavy machinery resulting from large-scale construction, excellent road durability and dust suppression technology are considered essential requirements.
SG CO., LTD.’s EcoSteel Ascon is an eco-friendly, highly durable asphalt paving material that recycles steelmaking slag—a byproduct of steel production—as a substitute for natural aggregate. As a recycled resource, steelmaking slag offers significantly superior strength and wear resistance compared to conventional aggregate.
Performance tests have proven that EcoSteel Asphalt reduces road particulate matter by 85.7% compared to conventional asphalt. Furthermore, it offers approximately 4.5 times the durability and extends the road’s service life by about 2.3 times, thereby minimizing road damage—such as potholes, plastic deformation, and cracks—and significantly reducing maintenance costs.
Building on this supply contract, SG CO., LTD. plans to significantly expand the scope of EcoSteel Asphalt’s applications from public roads to the private industrial infrastructure sector. The company intends to focus on identifying new demand primarily in high-tech facilities, including semiconductor fabs, data centers, and major industrial complexes.
SG CO., LTD. explained, “This mock-up construction will serve as a major turning point in expanding the scope of EcoSteel Asphalt’s application to the high-tech industrial infrastructure sector,” adding, “Leveraging its outstanding fine dust reduction performance and high durability, we will actively increase supply to various industrial sites.”
