COSMAX, INC. announced on the 28th that it will participate as an industry representative in the launch of a bachelor’s degree program in cosmetics at the College of Pharmacy of Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), a prestigious national university located in West Java, Indonesia. The Department of Cosmetics is Indonesia’s first undergraduate program specializing in cosmetics. It covers the entire process of cosmetics research and development, ranging from basic research on skin and hair to formulation development and safety and efficacy evaluations. The company explained that the launch of this program will serve as a turning point for Indonesia’s cosmetics industry, which has traditionally grown around manufacturing, as it transitions toward a more sophisticated model centered on formulation and research capabilities. In particular, it is expected to lay the groundwork for cultivating specialized talent capable of proactively responding to the mandatory Halal certification scheduled for this coming October and the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration’s (BPOM) tightening of cosmetics regulations. COSMAX, INC. was also selected as a partner representing the local industry at the launch ceremony for the “ABG (Academia-Business-Government) Program,” which took place in conjunction with the opening of the new department. The ABG Program is a key project led by the Indonesian government aimed at transferring academic research outcomes to industry for commercialization. Ultimately, through this collaboration, COSMAX, INC. and Padjadjaran University will significantly expand joint research utilizing Indonesia’s unique biological resources. They will pursue the development of antioxidant ingredients using “tempoyak,” a traditional durian fermented food, as well as the development of skin-brightening and functional ingredients through “angkak” fermentation. Jeong Min-kyung, CEO of COSMAX, INC. Indonesia, stated, “We will continue to expand local industry-academia collaboration and advance our technological capabilities so that Indonesia’s abundant natural resources can be transformed into high-value-added materials recognized in the global market.”
