Shuhua’s film debut, *Happily Ever After*, has been officially invited to the “Window on Asian Cinema” section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, which runs from October 6 to 15. *Happily Ever After* will have its Asian premiere at this festival.
In March, the Busan International Film Festival was selected as an “A-List” film festival—alongside the Cannes, Berlin, and Venice International Film Festivals—under a new certification system introduced by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). “Window on Asian Cinema” is a section that introduces notable films offering a glimpse into the diverse perspectives and styles of established and emerging Asian directors.
Through her screen debut, *Happily Ever After*, Shu Hua will connect with audiences at the Busan International Film Festival, one of Asia’s premier film festivals. Following her appearance at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, her participation in the Busan International Film Festival has further solidified her standing as an actress.
Xu Hua shared her thoughts, saying, “I never imagined that my first film would lead me to participate in such a major film festival as an actress.” She added, “I am truly grateful to the director and the production team for trusting me with this role. Standing at film festivals around the world through this film, my character, and my performance feels like a dream come true.”
“Happily Ever After” tells the story of two sisters with completely different personalities whose seemingly peaceful daily lives are shaken when a stray cat unexpectedly enters their lives. The film was directed by Feng Yi-Fiona Ron, who has won numerous awards at the Golden Horse Film Festival, one of the leading film festivals in the Chinese-speaking world.
Xu Hua plays the role of Lin Ziqi, the youngest daughter in the family and the lively, innocent protagonist. She portrays a character whose perspective on life gradually changes through her nuanced performance.
Shu Hua’s first leading role, *Happily Ever After*, is scheduled for release in 2027.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 6 to October 15 at the Busan Cinema Center and various locations throughout Busan.
