[Edaily Reporter Oh Hee-na ] Kim Do-kyun, the 11th CEO of Kangwon Land, Inc., held his inauguration ceremony on the 2nd and officially began his duties. The new CEO declared his commitment to transforming the company into a global integrated resort that balances profitability with public interest, and identified regional collaboration and organizational culture innovation as his key management priorities.

Kangwon Land, Inc. announced on the 2nd that newly appointed CEO Kim Do-kyun held an inauguration ceremony at the Grand Ballroom of the High1 Grand Hotel and officially began his duties. Prior to the ceremony, CEO Kim paid his respects at the Memorial Tower for Industrial Martyrs in Taebaek, Gangwon Province—his first official act—to honor the spirits of the miners and reaffirm his commitment to mutual growth with the local community.

Later, at the inauguration ceremony attended by approximately 300 executives and employees, “Kangwon Land, Inc. is the embodiment of mutual growth, built upon the earnest aspirations and sacrifices of the residents, and serves as a key anchor company supporting the local economy,” he said. “On the threshold of a major transformation marking our 30th anniversary, I will turn crisis into opportunity and create a definitive turning point that will elevate the future of both Kangwon Land, Inc. and the coal industry transition regions to the next level,” he stated.

CEO Kim presented the key management directions for Kangwon Land, Inc.’s new future. First, he declared a major leap forward toward becoming a “global public-oriented integrated resort” that balances profitability with public interest. The plan is to enhance the execution of the “K-HIT Project,” a large-scale investment initiative, and transform the resort into a “specialized, year-round, stay-type entertainment resort.” To this end, he promised to establish a responsible tourism model by building an integrated tourism belt, pushing for regulatory improvements, and advancing an AI-based addiction prevention system.

He also emphasized the creation of Korea’s premier win-win platform to revitalize the local economy. Under the principle of “special compensation for special sacrifice,” he expressed his ambition to restructure the local industrial ecosystem and create high-quality jobs that will encourage young people to settle in the region, thereby building a sustainable ESG win-win platform.

Internally, he emphasized a commitment to organizational culture innovation based on the spirit of “When those above and below share the same desire, they will prevail.” The vision is to create an organizational culture that embodies values such as fostering exemplary labor-management relations based on communication and respect, establishing a fair personnel system, creating a workplace where safety is the top priority, and realizing gender equality.

At the inauguration ceremony that day, CEO Kim Do-kyun and Labor Union Chairman Lim Woo-hyuk pledged, through a joint labor-management declaration, to achieve sustainable growth based on a mature culture of labor-management cooperation.
