[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] Hanwha Vision employees conducted an environmental cleanup activity at Unjungcheon Stream in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, removing invasive plant species and placing soil balls designed to purify water into the nearby stream.
Hanwha Vision announced on the 23rd that it conducted a volunteer activity to remove invasive plants on the 21st in the area around Unjungcheon Stream in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, to restore the health of the local ecosystem.

This activity was organized to protect the natural environment of the area where the company is based and to improve the stream environment, which serves as a major ecological corridor in the urban area. About 20 employees voluntarily participated and cleaned a 2-kilometer round-trip section of Unjungcheon Stream near the company, from Ssangryong Bridge to Botdeul Bridge.

Moving along the stream banks, the participants focused on removing invasive species—such as Japanese honeysuckle—that hinder the growth of native plants and threaten the riparian ecosystem. Over the course of about one hour, they collected approximately 42 kg of invasive plants from a 2,200-square-meter area along the stream. This amount is equivalent to 23 50-liter bags.

At the nearby Geumto Stream, 350 “EM (Effective Microorganisms) mud balls”—which help purify water quality and eliminate odors—were released into the stream. EM mud balls are made by mixing beneficial microorganisms with yellow clay and allowing the mixture to ferment; they are used to help break down pollutants on the stream bed.

Hanwha Vision explained that this initiative aligns with the protection of natural capital within the immediate vicinity of its facilities, as emphasized by the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). The TNFD is an international body that recommends companies assess the impact of their activities on natural ecosystems and biodiversity and disclose relevant information.

Hanwha Vision has designated the Unjung Stream, located near its facility, as a key ecological conservation area and plans to continue regular cleanup activities, including the removal of invasive plants. The company has established a system for calculating and managing greenhouse gas emissions and is responding to evaluations by the global sustainability assessment agency EcoVadis and the Korea ESG Standards Institute.

A Hanwha Vision official stated, “In addition to addressing climate change, it is also important to conserve biodiversity by protecting the ecosystems of the local communities where our company operates,” adding, “We will continue our environmental management activities, including the removal of invasive plants from the Unjung Stream.”
