[Edaily Reporter Han Jeon-jin ] Jeong Yong-jin, Chairman of #Shinsegae Group, has been nominated as CEO of E-Mart. Han Chae-yang, CEO of #E-Mart, is stepping down, and Kim Hong-guk, CEO of Shinsegae Casa, has been nominated as the new head and will also serve as CEO of SSG.com. The group has reorganized its core management team, including appointing new personnel to key positions within the Business Strategy Office, which serves as the group’s control tower.

On the 23rd, Shinsegae Group announced its 2027 regular executive reshuffle, which included these changes. Regarding this reshuffle, Shinsegae Group explained, “This is a personnel overhaul aimed at swiftly resolving the challenges facing the company and executing future growth plans without a hitch,” adding, “Chairman Jeong, who has declared a commitment to responsible management, selected partners to lead the group’s change and innovation based on a single criterion: ‘competence.’”

The key aspect of this reshuffle is the consolidation of the CEO positions for E-Mart and SSG.com under Kim Hong-guk. The newly appointed CEO is an expert in merchandise planning (MD) and sales, having served in roles such as Head of Home Appliances and Culture at E-Mart and Head of the Merchandising Division. He is credited with turning an operating loss into a profit during his tenure as CEO of Shinsegae TV Shopping and with leading profitability improvements at Shinsegae Casa since 2022. Going forward, he will oversee both E-Mart and SSG.com to strengthen their online and offline competitiveness.

Changes have also been made to key positions within the Group’s Management Strategy Office. Choi Taek-won, CEO of SSG.com, was appointed Head of Management Support, a role overseeing personnel and auditing. Park Seung-hak, Head of the Leisure Business Division at Joseon Hotel & Resorts, was newly appointed as Head of the External Relations Division, which handles public relations and government relations. Jeon Sang-jin, Executive Vice President for Management at the Corporate Strategy Office, was retained in his position. However, the appointment of a successor to the Head of the Corporate Strategy Office—a position that has been vacant since late April—was not included in this announcement.

Choi, the newly appointed Head of Management Support, previously held positions at E-Mart, including roles in logistics and supply chain management, as well as Head of the Sales Division. During his tenure as CEO of SSG.com, he was responsible for integrating E-Mart’s strengths into the online business. Park, the newly appointed Head of External Relations, has served as Head of the Sales Division at E-Mart, Head of CSR, and Head of the E-Mart Everyday Business Division. He will now oversee the group’s public relations and external relations.

Heo Min-ho, former CEO of CJ Olive Young, was recruited from outside the company to serve as CEO of Shinsegae Casa. As CEO of CJ Olive Young for approximately 10 years, Heo led the expansion of stores and sales. He will drive the expansion of the Casamia and JAJU businesses. Shinsegae International will introduce a specialized management system divided into fashion and cosmetics divisions. Current CEO Kim Deok-ju will oversee the fashion division, while CEO Heo will concurrently serve as CEO of the cosmetics division. Ki In-ju, CEO of SMPMC, has been nominated as CEO of the Shinsegae Baseball Team.

In the department store division led by Chairwoman Jeong Yu-kyung, key executives were retained while promotions were announced. Kim Nak-hyun, manager of the Centum City branch of Shinsegae Co., Ltd., was promoted to vice president, while Lee Seong-hwan, head of sales strategy, and Lee Seung-woo, head of development, were each promoted to executive vice president. Kim Dae-ho, head of the Support Division at Shinsegae Central, and Kang Seong-jun, head of the Sales Division at Shinsegae Live Shopping, were also promoted to executive vice president. New executives were also appointed at Shinsegae DF and Shinsegae Simon.

This round of personnel changes saw a record-high 36 new executives promoted. With the active appointment of executives in their 40s, the proportion of executives in their 40s among the group’s total executive ranks rose to a record high of 18%. In the Management Strategy Office, Gong Jae-hoon, Head of the Public Relations Team, and Song Su-yong, Head of the Management Support Team, were promoted to Assistant General Manager. Shinsegae Group plans to continue conducting ad hoc personnel changes to place the right people in the right positions even after this regular round of appointments.

Chairman Jeong is scheduled to officially take office as CEO of E-Mart following the upcoming shareholders’ meeting. Thereafter, he will lead major affiliates under a co-CEO system alongside Kim Hong-geuk, CEO of E-Mart, and Lee Hyung-cheon, CEO of Shinsegae Property. The plan is to strengthen competitiveness in core businesses while expanding into new ventures such as artificial intelligence (AI), content, and entertainment.

A Shinsegae Group official stated, “Chairman Jeong has decided to personally exercise leadership during this period of major industrial transformation centered on artificial intelligence to spearhead the group’s transformation,” adding, “Through performance-based talent recruitment, we will maximize competitiveness in our core businesses and achieve results in future growth sectors as well.”
