LG Uplus announced on the 3rd that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Institute for Health and Family Affairs to strengthen the digital capabilities of multicultural families and single-person households.

The Korea Institute for Healthy Families is a public institution under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family that supports and manages 244 family centers nationwide. Based on the family center network, the two parties plan to reduce the digital divide among digitally vulnerable groups and create a safe digital environment.
Key training topics include how to use smartphones and AI, hands-on training with generative AI, and prevention of voice phishing and smishing. LG Uplus also plans to provide IT training equipment—such as smart TVs, laptops, and tablets—to improve the educational environment at the family centers.
This collaboration was initiated based on the success of digital education programs LG Uplus conducted at select family centers earlier this year.
LG Uplus conducted training sessions on smartphone usage, generative AI hands-on practice, and voice phishing prevention for multicultural families and marriage immigrants at Family Centers in Ansan, Gwangmyeong, and Hwaseong. A total of 103 participants took part, and the average satisfaction rating was 4.6 out of 5.
As the participating family centers also agreed on the need to expand the programs, both parties decided to extend the pilot project to family centers nationwide. They will also identify best practices in education and conduct joint promotional campaigns to foster a culture of digital inclusion.
Both parties plan to continue providing digital education and support centered on local family centers, with the goal of creating an environment where digitally vulnerable groups—such as multicultural families and single-person households—can use AI and digital technologies more safely and conveniently.
Park Gu-yeon, Chairman of the Korea Institute for Health and Family Affairs, stated, “We have laid the groundwork to expand education and support for digitally vulnerable groups through the nationwide network of family centers,” adding, “We will continue to collaborate with LG Uplus to help diverse families adapt smoothly to digital society and build their capabilities.”
Joo Yong-han, Head of Consumer Human Resources at LG Uplus, remarked, “As AI technology spreads rapidly, the importance of the ability to use digital technology safely and effectively is growing even more.” He added, “We will expand our support to improve access to information for digitally vulnerable groups—such as multicultural families and single-person households—and ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefits of digital technology.”
