Director Nancy Meyers, who wrote and directed the 2015 film *The Intern*—starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway—which became a global box office hit and is still considered by many to be one of their “all-time favorite movies”—has sent a special message of support for the Korean remake.
Set to open on the 16th, “The Intern” depicts office life that transcends both generations and job titles, beginning when “Ki-ho” (Choi Min-sik), a 37-year veteran “silver intern,” joins the company of “Seon-woo” (Han So-hee), who has rapidly emerged as a dark horse in the fashion industry just three years after launching her business.
Veteran director Nancy Meyers, who has been active in Hollywood across various roles—including screenwriting, directing, and producing—in films such as *Romantic Holiday* and *Things We Ought to Let Go of When We Fall in Love*, expressed her special affection for the original film, saying, “It was a movie that began with my wish that there had been someone who quietly supported me in my youth.”
She continued, “I was delighted to hear that it would be produced anew in Korea, and as a creator, I’m incredibly excited. It’s very meaningful that this story can resonate across different cultural contexts,” expressing her anticipation.
She also expressed her confidence in the lead actors, Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee. Regarding Choi Min-sik, who plays the silver intern “Ki-ho,” she said, “I was truly delighted to hear that Choi Min-sik, a leading figure in the Korean film industry, had been cast. I have high expectations that he will showcase a depth, dignity, and charm distinct from Robert De Niro’s portrayal.”
Regarding Han So-hee, who plays the workaholic CEO “Seon-woo,” he added, “I believe she will charmingly portray the role of a confident, energetic, and modern leader. I’m already curious to see the special chemistry these two actors will showcase.”
Director Nancy Meyers addressed Korean audiences, saying, “I am always grateful to Korean audiences who have deeply loved the original film.” She continued, “I hope you will find warm laughter and comfort in the Korean version of *The Intern* as well, and I sincerely hope it becomes a film that everyone will remember for a long time.”
“The Intern” is set to open in theaters in nine Asian countries—including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia—on the 16th of next month. This marks the largest-scale Asian release of any Korean film distributed by Warner Bros. Korea.

“The Intern” is directed by Kim Do-young, who previously helmed the film “If We.” The cast includes Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee, as well as Kim Jun-han, Ryu Hye-young, Kim Geum-soon, Park Ye-ni, Kim Yo-han, Im Sung-kyun, and Yoon Sang-jung. The film opens on the 16th.
