The Netflix film "Possible Love" has been officially invited to the Gala Section of the 70th BFI London Film Festival, following its screenings at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, the 64th New York Film Festival, the 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival, the 22nd Zurich Film Festival, and the 45th Vancouver International Film Festival.
“Possible Love” tells the story of two couples—a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband—who meet to produce a documentary and are confronted with each other’s different lives and hidden desires.
The BFI London Film Festival, organized by the British Film Institute, is the UK’s largest film festival, and the Gala Section—to which *Possible Love* has been invited—showcases the most talked-about new films. Notably, Director Lee Chang-dong has achieved the remarkable feat of being invited to the BFI London Film Festival six times in total—following *Peppermint Candy*, *Oasis*, *Secret Sunshine*, *Poetry*, and *Burning*—with his new film *Possible Love*.
The second set of promotional stills released alongside the announcement captures Director Lee Chang-dong on set, as well as diverse shots of the four actors—Jeon Do-yeon, Seol Kyung-gu, Jo In-sung, and Jo Yeo-jeong—who will deliver a dazzling ensemble performance in *Possible Love*. First, the image of “Mi-ok” (Jeon Do-yeon), wearing a microphone and with tears welling in her eyes as she gives an interview, piques curiosity about what she has endured as the wife of a laid-off worker and the story she will share on camera.

In the expression on “Ye-ji’s” (Jo Yeo-jeong) face as she gives an interview—gazing intently at “Mi-ok” as if deeply immersed in her story—one can glimpse her sincere desire to grow closer to “Mi-ok.” The scenes of “Ye-ji” sharing a drink with “Mi-ok” and “Ho-seok” (Seol Kyung-gu) at their home, and having a conversation with “Mi-ok” in front of the Workers’ Action Committee, also hint at “Ye-ji’s” efforts and passion to deeply empathize with the lives of the laid-off workers in order to create a documentary about them.
“Mi-ok,” standing at the villa’s window and gazing outside with an expectant expression, and “Ho-seok,” whose expression—unlike his son’s—is inscrutable, make one wonder what state of mind he was in when he headed to the villa of “Sang-woo” (Jo In-sung) and “Ye-ji.” A still of “Mi-ok” and “Sang-woo” gazing out at the ocean together sparks curiosity about what kind of conversation these two people—who have led completely different lives—might be having on the beach, and what emotional ripples their encounter might create.
“Possible Love” was also selected as South Korea’s entry in the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. It opens in select theaters on the 23rd and will be available on Netflix starting November 6.
