[E-Daily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] I have to admit that the saying “Chuseok is ‘Tazza’” rings true.

It’s been a full 20 years. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, as a Korean, you’ve probably uttered lines like “I’m a woman who graduated from Ewha,” “Ask and go for double!” or “It’s chilling. A dagger flies and pierces my heart” at least once.
“Tazza” (2006) starring Jo Seung-woo, Kim Hye-soo, Baek Yoon-sik, and Yoo Hae-jin; “Tazza: The Hand of God” (2014) starring Choi Seung-hyun, Shin Se-kyung, Kwak Do-won, Yoo Hae-jin, and Lee Ha-nui; “Tazza: One-Eyed Jack” (2019) starring Park Jung-min, Ryu Seung-beom, and Choi Yu-hwa, and “Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub” (2026) starring Byun Yo-han, Noh Jae-won, and Ayaka Miyoshi, which brings this epic journey to a close.
“Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub” (Tazza 4) is a crime thriller in which Jang Tae-young (played by Byun Yo-han)—who thought he had it all thanks to his online casino business—and his best friend of the same name, Park Tae-young (played by Noh Jae-won), who took everything from him, meet again on the global gambling scene to face off in a high-stakes game of revenge.
“Tazza 4” has established a different universe from the previous series. This means viewers can easily follow the story even without prior knowledge of the earlier installments. However, it doesn’t feel like a completely separate work either. Although the director and plot are different, it evokes the title “the youngest member of the Tazza family,” as if to say that blood cannot be denied.

“Song of Beelzebub” is the “favorite” series in the “Tazza” franchise, cited by the original author, Heo Young-man, as his personal favorite story. It also enjoys the strongest support among fans of the original manga. With its comic-book-style settings and imaginative storytelling, the film delivers the ultimate in genre-based entertainment.
The 13 of Spades, symbolizing death, bears the name of a demon; “Belzebub” in the title refers to the ruler of hell. However, Belzebub is defeated by the fallen angel Lucifer and reduced to a “dung fly.” The desperate battle between two demons gambling with their lives is the very essence of “Belzebub’s Song.”
It would have been easier to understand if you knew more about poker, but it’s not enough to hinder your ability to follow the plot. The story unfolds around two friends with the same name, Jang Tae-young and Park Tae-young, and the two actors portraying them convincingly unravel their complex relationship. Even if you don’t know what Beelzebub is, or aren’t a fan of the original series, you can still be completely drawn into the show.
In that regard, the performances by Byun Yo-han and Noh Jae-won are pure “dopamine.” Byun Yo-han seamlessly brings out the essence of the show by switching between intense action and his signature laid-back charm. He even makes plot points that initially seem implausible make perfect sense.
Noh Jae-won is truly a remarkable actor. With a delicate, passionate performance—seeming to control even the angle of his pupils—he transforms a cartoonish character into someone who could actually exist in the real world. It marks the birth of a villain who is so multi-dimensional it’s almost unsettling.
In addition, “Tazza 4” features an all-star cast of talented actors, including Ayaka Miyoshi, Jo Woo-jin, Yoon Kyung-ho, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Hong Dao, Kim Min-ho, and Im Se-mi. Ayaka Miyoshi, in particular, plays a key role in building the film’s tension, while Jo Woo-jin and Yoon Kyung-ho provide solid support that underpins the film’s entertainment value. Rapper Swings, who took on the acting challenge under his real name, Moon Ji-hoon, also fully delivers on his role—even considering that this was his sudden acting debut.
However, there are clear shortcomings. Puzzling scenes that make you wonder, “Was this really necessary?” pop up out of nowhere. It’s particularly disappointing that this unnecessary direction is intertwined with the exploitative portrayal of female characters. Aside from the thrills an entertainment film can provide, the violent and excessive scenes—which feel unnecessary to the narrative—undermine the film’s overall quality.
Nevertheless, “Tazza 4” is a film that faithfully delivers the fun of a lighthearted entertainment movie that you can enjoy without overthinking. Considering that this is the final installment of the “Tazza” series, which has spanned 20 years, it’s a must-see for this Chuseok holiday. Directed by Choi Guk-hee. Runtime: 129 minutes. Opens September 23.
