Alpha Agency, Yuri Nakamura’s agency, announced on the 14th that she had passed away on the 1st due to rectal cancer. She was 44 years old.
The agency stated that although she had made a comeback and been actively working since battling cancer 13 years ago, the cancer recurred early last year. She subsequently developed an intestinal obstruction and passed away at the age of 44.
The late Yuri Nakamura was born in 1962 to a third-generation Korean-Japanese father and a mother from Seoul. She debuted as a singer at age 16 and went on to pursue a career as an actress.
In particular, she gained recognition in South Korea after appearing in the 2007 film *Headbutt: Love & Peace*, which tells the story of Korean residents in Japan. For this role, she won the Best Actress Award at the National Film Directors’ Association Awards and the Newcomer Award at the Osaka Cinema Festival.
The late actress expanded her scope by appearing in various Japanese films and TV dramas.
