[E-Daily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LGELECTRONICS is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to boost software development productivity and strengthen the competitiveness of its services. The company is accelerating the shift in its development approach by sharing AI implementation experiences across its affiliates—ranging from the development of the smart TV platform webOS to the modernization of legacy systems and content production.

LGELECTRONICS announced on the 16th that it will host “LG AI DevCon 2026” for two days starting on the 15th at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, organized by the LG Software (SW) Council.

LG AI DevCon is an event where developers from affiliates such as LGELECTRONICS, LG CNS, and LG Uplus share the latest AI technologies and development case studies. It is a revamped version of the “LG Software Developer Conference,” which has been held annually since 2022, adapted to reflect changes in the AI-based development environment. Approximately 1,500 developers from affiliate companies will participate in this year’s event both online and in person.

An exhibition area was set up on-site where attendees could experience the latest AI technologies from NVIDIA, Microsoft (MS), Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and LG Corp. AI Research. The event also featured lectures by external experts and presentations on AI development case studies from each affiliate.

LGELECTRONICS is sharing the know-how and achievements it has gained by utilizing AI in the software development of webOS, its proprietary smart TV platform. The company is also introducing strategies to address security threats that are growing alongside the widespread adoption of AI, as well as plans to establish a management system to enhance the reliability and transparency of AI services.

LG CNS presented a case study on improving outdated systems using AI, while LG Uplus shared its achievements in applying conversational AI agents to content production. Jeong Ji-hoon, an adjunct professor at the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), explained how AI is transforming software development methods, and Shim Hyun-cheol, a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), discussed technological trends and future directions for physical AI.

The “LG Prompthon Challenge 2026,” in which developers from LG Corp. affiliates create AI services themselves, was also held. Participants utilized EXAONE, a large language model developed by LG AI Research, and “Kiro,” an AI development tool from AWS.

Twenty-eight teams, comprising 84 developers, participated in the preliminary round last August. The 10 teams that advanced from the preliminaries spent three weeks refining their services with support from LG Corp. AI Research and AWS. Services that made it to the finals included a home appliance installation simulator and a service for generating customized proposals for business-to-business (B2B) customers.

Kim Dong-wook, Executive Vice President and Head of the LGELECTRONICS Software Center, said, “We will share the AI application experience and innovation cases accumulated in the development field to accelerate development innovation and translate them into new value and services that customers can tangibly experience.”
