[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] “Would I be a match for a Marvel character? I think I’m better at PowerPoint and Excel. I’m a job seeker, after all. Haha.”

Actor Koo Kyohwan made these remarks on the 16th during a press conference held at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul, when asked about his experience performing hero-level action scenes.
“The Resurrected Man” marks Koo Kyo-hwan’s debut in an action film. He said, “I didn’t think of action as a separate genre,” adding, “When it came to the action scenes, my goal was to effectively convey the power, energy, and choreography as written in the script.”
He continued, “My top priority was to perform well safely without getting hurt,” adding, “I didn’t want to try too hard to look cool.”
“The Resurrected Man: The Red” (The Resurrected Man) tells the story of “Seok-hwan” (Koo Kyo-hwan), a job seeker whose only “qualification” is unfounded confidence, who discovers he possesses the ability to resurrect within 72 hours after death and is subsequently pursued by mysterious assailants.
Centered on Seok-hwan (played by Koo Kyohwan), who transforms into a “resurrection master” who grows stronger with each death, the film depicts the delightful chemistry among him, Black (played by Shin Seung-ho), his only friend Young-ha (played by Kang Ki-young), and his reliable younger sister Ye-rin (played by Kim Si-ah).
Director Baek Jong-yeol explained the aspects he focused on during production: “I spent a lot of time thinking about the pacing—specifically, how to bring him back to life. I analyzed how this concept had been portrayed in other action movies and researched how we could present it in a unique way.”
Director Baek continued, “Seok-hwan knows that his strength amplifies whenever he returns from the dead. He himself doesn’t know how strong he’ll become or how far he’ll go. That’s why I thought it would be even more entertaining.” Regarding the possibility of a series, he added, “As long as the resurrection continues, I don’t think there are any limits,” fueling anticipation.

Regarding his character Seok-hwan, Koo Kyo-hwan said, “My first impression was that he seemed like a young man who could be living next door to us,” adding, “So I was glad to play him, and it was a pleasure to watch such a character gradually grow.”
Shin Seung-ho, who delivered intense action scenes as “Black,” explained, “I wanted to look both human and monstrous. I paid close attention to his desire to protect his younger brother, as well as his physical presence and the sounds Black makes.”
Kang Ki-young, who played Young-ha, Seok-hwan’s friend, said, “I played an extremely ordinary human amidst characters who were like human weapons. I pondered how I could refresh the drama in a harmonious and lighthearted way. I’m satisfied because it seems I landed some successful, effective moments.”
Kim Si-ah played the role of Seok-hwan’s younger sister, Ye-rin. She shared, “I received a lot of direction about balancing the drama’s tone. Although I’m the youngest, I tried to portray a deep-thinking, mature character who takes on the role of the eldest sister, taking responsibility for her older brothers.”
Regarding her chemistry with Koo Gyo-hwan, which created the feel of real-life siblings, Kim Si-ah said, “When acting, I treated him as my younger brother, and I think that’s why our chemistry felt so natural.” She added, “He played a lot of pranks on me, and we shared snacks, so we actually grew close. I’m grateful to my senior for helping that come across so well.”
When asked about his campaign pledge, Koo Kyohwan said, “I really want to say something great,” adding, “I’ll research some fun and meaningful ideas and share them with you.” However, he didn’t actually give an answer, leaving everyone curious.
He also added, “With many Korean films opening ahead of Chuseok, I hope you’ll come to the theaters often and watch every movie as if you were choosing a delicious meal,” and expressed his hope, saying, “I hope they all do well.”
Kang Ki-young remarked, “There were ‘Red,’ ‘Black,’ and ‘Blue,’ right? I wanted a color too—how about ‘Yellow’?” He continued, “If we surpass 5 million viewers, I’ll wear a yellow suit and watch *The Resurrected Man*.” He then added, “In that case, Kim Si-ah, I’ll go with pink…,” drawing laughter.
Finally, Koo Kyohwan said, “When we make a movie, don’t we always work while dreaming of this moment? Meeting the audience always makes my heart race.” He added, “I think of it as ‘our’ movie while we’re making it, but once it’s in theaters, it becomes the audience’s movie. I hope you’ll have a wonderful day watching *The Resurrected Man* and enjoying some autumn anchovies and a glass of soju.”
“The Resurrected Man” opens on the 30th.
