NEOWIZ announced on the 16th that it has signed an IP agreement for Nihon Falcom’s *The Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch*, securing the rights to develop PC and console package versions of *The White Witch* and to publish them globally.
According to NEOWIZ, *The White Witch* is considered one of Nihon Falcom’s flagship titles and a classic RPG (role-playing game). It is the first title in the “The Legend of Heroes: Gagab Trilogy,” which unites Parts 3 through 5 within a single universe. Notably, in a survey conducted to commemorate Nihon Falcom’s 40th anniversary, the “Gagab Trilogy” ranked first among titles fans most wanted to revisit.
By drastically reducing combat and puzzle elements and focusing on narrative progression, it is known as the “Poetic RPG.” The game’s unique charm lies in its delicate depictions of characters’ movements across the map, NPC dialogue that changes in detail as the story progresses, and the use of music to convey emotions at pivotal moments.
Building on the development and publishing capabilities it has cultivated in the console market, NEOWIZ’s goal is to create a game that preserves the original’s story and atmosphere.
A NEOWIZ representative stated, “‘The White Witch’ is a title that RPG fans around the world have cherished for over 30 years,” adding, “We will present a game that not only recreates the emotional impact felt by players back then but also offers a level of polish that allows first-time players to become fully immersed.” The representative continued, “We look forward to building a long-term partnership with Nihon Falcom through this agreement.”
Meanwhile, Nihon Falcom is a Japanese game developer founded in 1981. It has grown primarily through role-playing games (RPGs). It has secured a global fanbase by releasing numerous titles primarily for console platforms. Its flagship titles include the “Trails” series, “Ys,” “Tokyo Zenith,” and “Kyoto Zenith: Enka Kanmu.” The “Trails” series has surpassed 10 million copies in cumulative sales, and “Ys” is celebrating its 39th anniversary this year.
