[Na Sang-cheon, CEO of Dream Engine] As the refreshing sound of the band, blended with the melody of the violin, filled the venue, the audience erupted into a passionate sing-along. The band Lucy’s solo concert “ISLAND,” held on May 16–17 at the KSPO DOME in Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, Seoul, was a festive celebration where Lucy’s music and the audience’s voices came together.

Lucy is a four-member band formed through the JTBC band audition show “Superband,” which aired in 2019, and officially debuted the following year. The band consists of violinist Shin Ye-chan, vocalist and guitarist Choi Sang-yeop, bassist Jo Won-sang, and vocalist and drummer Shin Kwang-il. They are known for their distinctive sound, which incorporates a violin into a rock band lineup.

Lucy kicked off their performance with “Sprouting,” “Blooming,” and “Hero.” They then raised the energy from the very beginning by performing a string of upbeat songs, including “Hot,” “Villain,” and “Play.” During their performance of “All Ages,” the title track from their second studio album, they evoked a sense of childhood wonder by incorporating cartoon-like visuals and photos of the members from their childhood. Their performance, which seamlessly shifted between refreshing and majestic tones, made a vivid impression even in the vast arena.

Most impressive of all was the rich sound created by the four members, each with their own distinct personalities, coming together as one. Shin Gwang-il’s drums and Jo Won-sang’s bass firmly established the rhythmic foundation, over which Choi Sang-yeop’s refreshing voice soared. Every time Shin Ye-chan’s violin bow sliced through the air, a melody that was both lyrical and explosive reached out to the audience. The sounds produced by each member in their respective positions meshed seamlessly, completing Lucy Man’s unique musical style.

The colorful staging, befitting a large concert venue, also stood out. The “drum car” performance, in which Shin Gwang-il moved toward the front of the stage while playing the drums, left a strong impression. Arrangements that incorporated Korean-style textures using traditional drums and musical battles between members modeled after video game screens added visual excitement to the joy of listening to the music. Various stage props and set pieces—including large video screens, fireworks, and confetti—interwove organically with the performance, heightening the festive atmosphere.

The members also brought a fresh kind of fun and connected more closely with the audience through skits—in which they transformed into a veterinarian, a soccer player, an office worker, and a college student—and a radio-style segment. During their solo stages, the four members each showcased their distinct vocal tones and emotional depth. The production was impressive for its ability to pace the show through music and storytelling, rather than relying solely on flashy stage effects.

As the members said, “We’ve never once failed to be sincere,” the performance radiated genuine emotion and passion. The audience responded by singing along at the top of their lungs. This collective singing went beyond a simple reaction; it served as a “fifth instrument,” breathing life into LUSSY’s performance. As energy flowed back and forth between the stage and the audience, the venue transformed into a “festival island” belonging solely to LUSSY and their fans.

Lucy successfully concluded their first K-Case Dome concert, drawing a total of 25,000 audience members over the two days. Having gradually expanded the scale of their venues, Lucy has set yet another milestone. We look forward to seeing how much more distinctly the island unique to Lucy—forged through violin melodies and rock sounds—will take shape in the future.
