[Edaily Reporter Choi Oh-hyun ] Roh Tae-moon, CEO of SamsungElectronics and head of the DX (Device Experience) Division, has purchased additional company shares worth approximately 630 million won. This marks his second purchase of company shares in about three months—following his purchase last July—bringing his total investment in company shares to approximately 700 million won; he has invested more than 1.3 billion won in the second half of this year alone.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system on the 6th, CEO Roh purchased 3,000 shares of SamsungElectronics common stock on the open market that day. The acquisition price per share was 210,000 won, bringing the total purchase amount to 630 million won. With this purchase, CEO Roh’s holdings of SamsungElectronics stock increased by 3,000 shares, from 124,280 to 127,280 shares. On that day, SamsungElectronics closed at 188,700 won, down 12,800 won (6.35%) from the previous trading day.

Previously, on July 30, President Noh had also purchased 3,045 shares of SamsungElectronics at 230,000 won per share. The purchase price at that time was approximately 703.5 million won. Including this additional purchase, he has invested 1.33035 billion won to acquire a total of 6,045 shares over the past three months.

Based on that day’s closing price, the market value of President Noh’s SamsungElectronics holdings stands at 24.01833 billion won. In July, based on the closing price of 262,500 won on the 31st, the value of his holdings was calculated at 32.6235 billion won; however, the value has dropped significantly due to the recent downturn in semiconductor investment sentiment.

This purchase is noteworthy because it came amid a significant downturn in investor sentiment toward domestic semiconductor stocks triggered by the U.S. midterm elections. The buyback is interpreted as a demonstration of confidence in the company’s medium- to long-term growth potential and a commitment to responsible management.

Domestic semiconductor stocks have fallen sharply for four consecutive trading days amid speculation that stricter regulations on data center construction following the U.S. midterm elections could delay the supply schedules for server and memory semiconductors. This marks the first time in about seven months—since April 7, when the closing price was 196,500 won—that SamsungElectronics’ closing price has fallen below 200,000 won.
