Ahead of the release of the film “Mashville,” set to open on the 28th of next month, Jeon Shin-hwan is actively promoting the film by personally planning and participating in related events.
Starting with a live appearance on Mokpo MBC Radio’s “Joyful 2 PM” on the 11th, Jeon Shin-hwan visited Mokpo Art Cinema and Gwangju Independent Cinema on the 12th and 13th, respectively, to discuss the film with audiences.
On the 19th, he met with audiences for a Q&A session at Hongdae’s KT&G Sangsang Madang and House of Well. Given that Western culture is a key genre element of the film, he hosted an “American Heritage” event after the screening for Western culture enthusiasts. He prepared everything from costumes and props to music and food to help the audience experience the film’s emotional impact and lingering afterglow even more deeply.
Jeon Shin-hwan is focusing his promotional efforts on allowing audiences to directly experience the film’s unique genre and atmosphere. Rather than simply attending Q&A sessions to introduce the film, he is personally planning events centered on Western culture to showcase the film’s world.
Jeon Shin-hwan shared his thoughts, saying, “I’m very happy that so many audience members have been coming out to see the film even before its release.” He added, “Since this film is being released under difficult circumstances at a time when the Korean film market has shrunk significantly, the cast is also actively working to plan many special events where people can experience Korean Western culture in a multifaceted way. We plan to continue meeting with audiences, so please show your continued interest until the film’s release.”
Director Hwang Wook of *Mashville* also stated, “I’m conducting promotional activities with a heart full of emotion at the prospect of showing this film to audiences,” adding, “Since this is such a unique film, we’re striving to make the promotion fun as well.”
The film “Mashville” is an Oriental Western comedy action film set in a village that has descended into lawlessness due to cult members attempting to gather 12 corpses for a ritual. It follows the events that unfold when nine people with conflicting interests—and one corpse—converge there. The film stars Jeon Sin-hwan, along with Park Jong-hwan, Park Seong-il, Kim Hyung-kyun, Kim Hee-sang, Jin Mo, Hong Seong-oh, and Kim Hong-guk.
The film won the Best Director Award at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival and garnered significant attention at various international film festivals, including the Santa Fe International Film Festival, the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival, and the Almería Western Film Festival.
Jeon Shin-hwan made his debut in 2010 with the film *The Handmaiden* and has since appeared in various works, including the dramas *The King’s Daughter, Su Baek-hyang* and *I’m a Melodrama*, as well as the films *Heading South*, *Misaeng: Prequel*, *Social Phobia*, *Lie*, *Time Traveler*, and *The Best Location*. In addition, he has appeared in the Netflix series *The Fabulous* and *Love War*, and last year, he played Detective Choi, a guardian angel for children, in the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama *I-Shopping*.
