[Edaily Reporter kyoungeun kim ] On the 30th, the KOSPI closed at the 6,838 level, maintaining its losses amid massive selling by foreign investors. Amid a mixed macroeconomic environment marked by falling oil prices and rising long-term interest rates, the KOSPI saw increased volatility as investors awaited Micron’s earnings report, scheduled for release that evening.
According to MP Doctor, the KOSPI closed at 6,838.04, down 32.77 points (0.48%) from the previous day. The index has now fallen for three consecutive trading days as heavy selling by foreign investors has continued since the Chuseok holiday.
Although the KOSPI opened higher today on news of a large-scale investment by Anthropic, it slipped to the low 6,800s in the afternoon as foreign and institutional selling intensified, and closed at that level.
While retail investors made net purchases of 1.1667 trillion won in an effort to prop up the index, foreign investors and institutions made net sales of 2.052 trillion won and 768 billion won, respectively, pushing the decline below the support level.
As of today, foreign investors have sold a total of 8.966 trillion won worth of stocks over the past three days.
By stock, 352 rose, 49 remained unchanged, and 513 fell, with decliners overwhelmingly dominating the market.
In contrast, the KOSDAQ closed higher, showing a trend opposite to that of the KOSPI. The KOSDAQ closed at 855.91, up 6.11 points (0.72%) from the previous day.
Retail investors made net purchases of 11.9 billion won, and institutional investors made net purchases of 48.8 billion won, while foreign investors made net sales of 67.6 billion won. With 803 stocks rising—nearly matching the 846 that fell—a solid trend centered on materials, components, and biotech-related stocks continued until the market closed.
By sector, trading companies (3.83%), chemicals (1.93%), and energy (1.37%) closed higher, while insurance (-3.17%), banking (-3.12%), and essential household goods (-3.03%) declined.
Ahead of Micron’s earnings announcement, SamsungElectronics(005930)saw a sharp decline—particularly in its preferred shares—as dividend-related concerns subsided. SamsungElectronics(005930)closed at 268,500 won, down 4,000 won (1.47%), while the second-largest player, SK hynix(000660), closed at 1,776,000 won, up 11,000 won (0.62%).
SamsungElectronics(1P)(005935)(-4.31%) posted the largest decline among the top-market-cap stocks, while Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(-2.93%), KB Financial Group(105560)(-2.71%), HyundaiMotor(005380)(-1.43%), and SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)(-0.98%) also closed lower.
Among the gainers were SKSQUARE(402340)(1.88%), LG Energy Solution(373220)(1.28%), and SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)(0.43%).
Kang Jin-hyuk, a senior analyst at Shinhan Investment Securities, noted, “While SK hynix showed strength, SamsungElectronics showed weakness, continuing a mixed trend,” and predicted, “Micron’s earnings announcement scheduled for early this morning will be a key factor in gauging the future outlook for the memory semiconductor market and the direction of domestic semiconductor stocks.”
On the KOSDAQ market, EO Technics Co., Ltd.(039030)(4.94%), JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(4.73%), HLB INC.(028300)(3.11%), ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)(2.83%), ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)(2.28%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(0.92%), Alteogen Inc.(196170)(0.39%), and Rainbow Robotics(277810)(0.36%) all rose.
On the other hand, SIMMTECH Co., Ltd.(222800)(1.25%) fell, and LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(0.14%) closed slightly lower.
