SBS Maintains Strong Viewership Ratings Through the Final Stages of the Nagoya Asian Games… Ranks First for Major Events

[Edaily Reporter Lee Youn-jung ] Ahead of the closing ceremony of the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games, SBS recorded the highest viewership ratings for its broadcasts of major events such as taekwondo and archery.

According to Nielsen Korea on the 4th, the women’s taekwondo over-67kg final featuring Song Da-bin, broadcast by SBS the previous day, recorded a nationwide household viewership rating of 2.3% and a 2049 demographic rating of 0.7%. Both figures were the highest among the three major terrestrial broadcasters.

SBS’s coverage of archery also drew viewers’ attention. The women’s recurve individual semifinals ranked first among broadcasters with a 2.5% household viewership rating in the Seoul metropolitan area. The men’s individual quarterfinals, featuring Lee Woo-seok, also posted the highest nationwide household viewership rating at 1.7%. In the women’s individual quarterfinals, Kang Chae-young’s match recorded a 0.3% viewership rating in the 20–49 age group in the Seoul metropolitan area and nationwide, while Oh Ye-jin’s match recorded 0.6%, each ranking first in their respective time slots.

The Korean team continued to add medals right up until the very end of the competition. In the men’s recurve individual final, Lee Woo-seok defeated Japan’s Junia Nakanishi with a set score of 6–2 to claim the title. Having already won a gold medal in the team event, Lee Woo-seok went on to win the individual event as well, becoming a double gold medalist at the competition.

In the women’s recurve individual event, Oh Ye-jin won a silver medal. Oh Ye-jin faced India’s Kunkumani Mohod in the final, taking the match to a shoot-off, but unfortunately missed out on the gold.

In the women’s taekwondo +67kg division, Song Da-bin won the gold medal after triumphing in the final. She capped off South Korea’s taekwondo campaign at this tournament with a gold medal. In the judo mixed team event, South Korea lost to Uzbekistan in the bronze medal match and failed to make it onto the podium.

Meanwhile, the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games, which kicked off on September 19, will conclude its 16-day schedule with the closing ceremony on the 4th.
