[Edaily Reporter Kim Min-jung ] Internet broadcaster Gwajju Seyeon (real name In Seyeon, 25), who is under police investigation on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act, raised over 100 million won in donations on the first day of her new Excel broadcast.
On the 1st, Gwajju Seyeon unveiled her new Excel content series, “Rookie Academy,” via a YouTube live stream and resumed her broadcasting activities. (Photo: Screenshot from Gwajju Seyeon’s social media) On that day, Gwajju Seyeon introduced herself, saying, “I’m Gwajju Seyeon, and I’m the main MC. I also serve as the CEO.”
She continued, “The broadcast was pushed back by one episode, so we’re doing it on Thursday,” adding, “Since it was delayed, I prepared a lot. I think we’ll be able to really have some fun today.”
According to the online broadcast revenue tracking site Pung Today, the broadcast generated approximately 120 million won in donations that day. It was reported that the broadcast attracted over 20,000 viewers at one point.
An “Excel” broadcast is a type of online streaming content where multiple performers showcase various reactions—such as dancing or interacting with viewers—while receiving real-time donations. Depending on donation performance, the performers’ rankings or titles are displayed on screen, and rewards are distributed accordingly.
Therefore, the approximately 120 million won tallied that day represents the total amount of donations received for the entire broadcast; it is not the full amount received by Gwajuk Seyeon personally.
Meanwhile, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul is investigating three individuals—including Gwajju Seyeon and her boyfriend, BJ K (real name Park Jung-kyu)—on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. They were booked without detention on July 30.
According to the police, K is suspected of obtaining prescription sleeping pills—which are classified as psychotropic substances—through an acquaintance and taking them with Gwajju Seyeon last June.
Initially, it was reported that only K was under investigation, but it was later confirmed that Gwajju Seyeon was also included in the police investigation.
During a live broadcast last month, Gwajuk Seyeon denied having used illegal drugs or obtained sleeping pills through a proxy prescription.
She also repeatedly made her position clear during the live stream by displaying the message: “I didn’t do drugs. I didn’t get a prescription through a third party. I was questioned before I bleached my hair. I’m sorry for causing you concern.”
