[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] “I’m Single” is set to air a special episode featuring families with multiple children.
The story of Season 34 unfolds on the July 7 episode of SBS Plus and ENA’s “I’m Single.”
On this episode, the three hosts—Defconn, Lee Yi-kyung, and Song Hae-na—are said to elicit laughter by guessing which child in the family each single man or woman is, rather than asking about their occupation, whenever they appear. Reports indicate that the actual family structures are beyond imagination. In a pre-broadcast interview, one male contestant revealed, “I have seven older sisters, two parents, and myself—that’s ten of us in total,” while another female contestant confessed, “I’m the youngest of eight sisters. There’s a gap of over twenty years between me and my oldest sister. My married niece is pregnant, so I’m about to become a great-aunt.”
Their experiences growing up in large families are clearly reflected in their behavior. One single woman, the eldest of four siblings, takes care of another single woman’s name tag when she injures her hand and takes the lead in assigning rooms and doing the grocery shopping at the lodge. Meanwhile, a single man—the “eldest son of the K family”—offers water to the women first and immediately adjusts the air conditioner when someone mentions feeling cold. Lee Yi-kyung laughs, saying, “The ‘K-eldest son’ handles things indoors, while the ‘K-eldest daughter’ takes care of grocery shopping.” There’s also a single man who boasts an “understanding of women’s hearts” that he naturally acquired while growing up with older sisters. One single man says, “Since I’ve been close with my older sisters, I think I understand a bit better where women might get offended or hurt.”
However, they also voice the practical hardships of growing up in large families. One single man, the youngest son among seven older sisters, contrary to expectations that he was raised like “a precious gem,” laments, “With seven sisters and one son, I’m just a servant—a servant.” He explains, “I helped with farm work from a young age in a family that farmed.” Another single woman vents her frustrations as the “sandwiched middle child” and “Deok-seon from *Reply 1988*,” saying, “I had to wear hand-me-downs from my older sisters, while my younger brother got brand-new clothes.” Anticipation is building to see what kind of romance will blossom from the encounters between these men and women from large families.
“I’m Single” is a hyper-realistic dating show where single men and women who desperately want to get married gather to struggle to find love. It has won the hearts of viewers with various special episodes, such as the “Lifelong Singles” special and the “Divorced Singles” special. Attention is now focused on how the first-ever “Large Family Special” will be received.
“I’m Single” airs on the 7th at 10:30 p.m.
