12,000 People to Run Through Downtown Seoul… “Seoul Run” to Be Held on the 11th
Traffic Restrictions by Section on Namdaemun-ro, Eulji-ro, and Cheonggyecheon-ro
Traffic restrictions will be lifted sequentially after participants have passed through
[Edaily Reporter LEE YOUNG-MIN ] On the final day of the Hangul Day holiday, 12,000 people will run through downtown Seoul. To facilitate the “Seoul Run” marathon, now in its 24th year, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will restrict traffic along a loop course stretching from Seoul Plaza through Jongno and Sungnyemun Gate to Cheonggyecheon Stream.

(Photo courtesy of the Seoul Metropolitan Government) The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will co-host the “2026 Seoul Race (SEOUL RACE)” with Dong-A Ilbo Co., Ltd. starting at 7:30 a.m. on the 11th in the Seoul Plaza area. A total of 12,000 participants will take part in this year’s event across two categories: the half marathon and the 11-kilometer race.
Participants will set off from Seoul Plaza and run through Jongno, Dongdaemun, Sungnyemun, Euljiro, and Cheonggyecheon, traversing downtown Seoul as they pass skyscrapers, historical and cultural sites, and waterfront scenery. Citizens who complete the course will receive a finisher’s medal featuring symbols of Seoul.
Given the large number of participants, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will deploy safety personnel along key sections of the route and operate a joint operations center with relevant agencies, as well as medical stations.
On the day of the event, major roads—including Namdaemun-ro, Eulji-ro, and Cheonggyecheon-ro—will be closed in sections from 7:10 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to lift traffic restrictions sequentially as all participants pass through each section to minimize inconvenience to the public. Prior to the event, text messages will be sent to residents to provide advance notice, and traffic control information will be disseminated through major media outlets operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Dong-A Ilbo.
Cho Seong-ho, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Tourism and Sports Bureau, stated, “The Seoul Run is a premier sporting event where citizens and runners from home and abroad can run together through downtown Seoul while enjoying the autumn atmosphere and the city’s charm.” He added, “We are making thorough preparations to ensure that all participants can safely enjoy the event, and we ask for the cooperation and understanding of the public regarding the traffic restrictions on the day of the race.”
