According to MP Doctor, as of 1:41 p.m. today, the KOSPI is trading at 5,952.00, down 432.24 points (6.77%) from the previous day.
While retail investors are net buyers of 2.1154 trillion won and institutional investors are net buyers of 1.0928 trillion won, foreign investors are net sellers of 3.6745 trillion won, exacerbating the decline. The KOSPI, which briefly fell below the 6,000 mark this morning, continued to slide into the afternoon, dropping to the 5,900 level. By stock, 101 are up, 18 are unchanged, and 797 are down, with falling stocks overwhelmingly dominating the market.
Earlier, at 9:47 a.m., the Mini KOSPI 200 futures plunged 5.08% from the reference price, triggering a sell-side circuit breaker, as volatility reached extreme levels.
The KOSDAQ is also moving in the same direction as the KOSPI. The KOSDAQ is currently trading at 820.13, down 29.06 points (3.42%) from the previous day. While retail investors recorded net sales of 171.7 billion won and institutional investors 17.6 billion won, foreign investors made net purchases of 190.2 billion won. With only 201 stocks rising and 1,490 falling, concerns are growing that the market may be oversold.
Deteriorating investor sentiment toward semiconductor stocks is cited as the key factor behind today’s sharp decline. Kang Jin-hyuk, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Securities, stated, “With no macroeconomic issues due to the U.S. bond market being closed, microeconomic issues centered on semiconductors instead acted as a shock to the market,” adding “AI investment sentiment cooled following noise surrounding OpenAI’s revenue and warnings from Broadcom and Intel CEOs about profit pressure due to AI capital raising constraints. This was compounded by the possibility that China’s CXMT could launch next-generation DDR5 memory for servers within the year, which stoked market concerns about intensifying competition and doubts regarding earnings in 2027–2028,” he noted.
A break below technical support levels is also cited as a factor that fueled the sell-off. Analyst Kang explained, “Disappointment-driven selling emerged after the stock broke below the 200-day moving average,” adding, “The stock is now approaching the 240-day moving average—which served as a support level during the July correction—and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is nearing oversold territory.” He added, “In addition to the lack of retail investor demand, SamsungElectronics’ share buyback program ended on the 6th of this month, and SK hynix’s is set to conclude around this week. As a result, the market’s supply-demand buffers have weakened, creating a structure vulnerable to a sell-off.”
Looking at individual stocks, SamsungElectronics(005930), the company with the largest market capitalization, is trading at 229,750 won, down 8.28%, while SK hynix(000660), the second-largest, is trading at 1,432,000 won, down 10.78%.

In contrast, LG Energy Solution(373220)(0.25%) rose slightly, marking the only gain among the top-market-cap stocks.
