LG Uplus(032640)announced on the 14th that, ahead of the start of the 2026 professional baseball postseason, it has completed an intensive inspection of network quality and the upgrading of telecommunications infrastructure in the area surrounding Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul.
Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which has served as the mecca of Korean professional baseball for 44 years since its opening in 1982, will begin remodeling after this year’s postseason schedule concludes. As this will be the final fall baseball season held at the current stadium, a record-breaking number of spectators is expected to attend.
In fact, last year’s postseason at Jamsil Baseball Stadium was a sellout (23,750 spectators), drawing a crowd more than 15% larger than the average regular-season attendance. In particular, with baseball fever reaching new heights—as evidenced by this year’s KBO regular season total attendance surpassing 12.77 million—traffic is expected to surge dramatically during the playoffs and the Korean Series.
Accordingly, ahead of the official start of the fall baseball season, LG Uplus has completed the optimization of antennas both inside and outside the stadium, as well as on-site quality measurements. The company has also implemented traffic control and parameter optimization technologies utilizing AI agents to ensure smooth wireless internet access even in crowded environments.
The company has also continued to advance its overall telecommunications infrastructure. It has increased the number of 5G equipment installations by 1.5 times compared to the early stages of commercialization and has carried out periodic antenna replacements to ensure uniform indoor LTE signal coverage, as well as upgrades to aging Wi-Fi equipment. For key playoff and Korean Series games with sold-out crowds, the company plans to proactively respond to temporary traffic overloads by deploying additional mobile base stations.
Kwak Jun-young, Head of Metropolitan Infrastructure at LG Uplus, stated, “Since postseason attendance at Jamsil Baseball Stadium is expected to increase by about 15% compared to the regular season average, data usage is also projected to rise by a similar margin.” He added, “We will spare no effort to ensure we provide the highest call quality without interruption, even when large crowds gather at once.”
