LG Uplus announced on the 18th that it successfully concluded the “U+119 Memorial Run 2026,” a memorial running event for firefighters who died in the line of duty, held on the 17th in the areas surrounding Sejong Central Park and the Sejong National Arboretum. The event was made even more meaningful by the participation of approximately 2,300 people, including members of the public, active-duty firefighters, and the bereaved families of fallen firefighters.

Now in its second year, the “U+119 Memorial Run” is a public participation social contribution event organized to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty while dedicating their lives to the safety and well-being of the public, and to support their families. Key executives and employees, including Hong Beom-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, personally ran the course to express their condolences and encouragement.

A total of 2,000 participants took part in this year’s race. The event featured an 11.9-kilometer course (1,400 participants)—named after “119,” the number symbolizing the fire service—and a 5-kilometer course (600 participants) designed for families and friends to participate together.

Participants ran wearing special bibs with the names and dates of death of fallen firefighters written next to their own names. The purpose was to honor the noble dedication of each individual. The event was designed without competition or awards, focusing instead on safely completing the course and the act of remembrance itself.

Notably, the event’s significance was heightened by the return of approximately 500 participants from last year’s inaugural race, and 119 active-duty firefighters—a number symbolizing the fire service—joined the participants on the course. LG Uplus also invited long-term VIP customers and winners of social media events, creating a space for customers to participate directly in acts of giving.

Warm support from private companies also continued. LG Corp. affiliates, including LG H&H and Farm Hannong, as well as CJ Corp., Ringti, YUNGJIN PHARM, Newcare, Dong-A Pharmaceutical, and Tripian, participated as official sponsors to lend their support.

Immediately following the race, a variety of programs took place, including an official memorial service organized by the National Fire Agency, fire safety experience booths, and performances. Even after finishing the race, participants toured the event grounds and expressed their gratitude to active-duty firefighters.

All entry fees paid by participants that day (50,000 won per person) will be used in full to support the families of firefighters who died in the line of duty. Last year’s entry fees were also donated to “Firefighters’ Families Hope Sharing,” an organization for the bereaved families of fallen firefighters, and were used to support their families.

LG Uplus plans to link this event with its “Simply. U+” campaign, aiming to develop it beyond a one-time event into a genuine, participatory social contribution initiative where the public can show support for firefighters in their daily lives.

Hong Beom-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, stated, “It is the responsibility of all of us in society to remember the noble sacrifices of firefighters who have dedicated themselves to protecting the lives and safety of the public and to express our gratitude.” He added, “LG Uplus will continue to encourage firefighters and their families and make sustained efforts to foster a culture of respect and honor for them throughout society.”
