[E-Daily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] Hyundai Department Store ( HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD(069960)) announced on the 18th that it is launching the “Re:Bag” campaign at the food court of its Trade Center branch in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Re:Bag is an eco-friendly campaign in which the company collects unused eco-bags from customers, sorts, cleans, and redesigns them, and then reuses them as shopping bags in the food court. The idea originated from the “Youth Climate Action Open Innovation” initiative, a joint project between HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, and the Korea Environment Conservation Institute.

Previously, in July, HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD launched the “365 Recycle” campaign, collecting approximately 3,000 eco-bags from customers and producing 1,500 shopping bags from them.

This campaign, open to members of HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD’s H-Point loyalty program, runs from the 21st to the 30th. Customers who shop at the food hall of the Trade Center branch and request a “Ri-Bag” at the checkout counter will receive one free of charge.

Customers are limited to one “Re-Bag” shopping bag per person per day and will receive a 100-won discount on their grocery purchase. Customers who are members of the “Carbon Neutrality Points: Green Living Practices” program, operated by the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment, will receive an additional 100-won incentive. HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD card members will also receive 100 Green Friends mileage points.

To promote the use of reusable shopping bags, HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD plans to award an additional 2,000 H-Points to customers who return their reusable bags to the Customer Service Desk at the Trade Center branch by the 20th of next month.

Based on the results from the Trade Center branch, HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD plans to review expanding the reusable bag campaign to the food halls of its stores nationwide.

Yang Myeong-seong, Executive Vice President in charge of Sales Strategy at HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD, said, “To reduce the use of disposable items in the food hall, we are continuing various eco-friendly initiatives, such as encouraging customers who use ‘Fresh Table’—a fresh food preparation service—to use reusable containers.” He added, “We plan to steadily develop and introduce eco-friendly programs that will resonate with more customers and encourage their participation.”
