According to business circles on the 18th, Samsung will hold a memorial service for the late Chairman Lee on the 23rd at the family cemetery in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. Although the anniversary of his passing falls on the 25th, the service was moved up by two days in consideration of the fact that the 25th is a holiday.

It is reported that the memorial service will be attended by the late Chairman Lee’s family—including Chairman Lee, Hong Ra-hee, Honorary Director of the Leeum Museum of Art, Lee Boo-jin, President of HotelShilla, and Lee Seo-hyun, President of SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION—as well as executives from Samsung’s major affiliates.

The ceremony is expected to be held without any separate official events, focusing instead on honoring the late chairman’s achievements and legacy through the laying of floral tributes and a moment of silence. During last year’s fifth-anniversary memorial, approximately 50 current Samsung presidents visited the family cemetery ahead of the bereaved family, who then remained at the grave site for about 20 minutes to pay their respects.

After paying their respects, Chairman Lee and the executive team are expected to proceed to the Creative Hall at the Samsung Human Resources Development Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, for a luncheon. The Creative Hall is where a bust of the late Chairman Lee is displayed; last year, the luncheon with the executive team was also held there following the memorial service. With the company posting record-breaking earnings amid a semiconductor boom, attention is focused on the message Chairman Lee will convey to the executive team.

On the 28th, a memorial concert marking the sixth anniversary will be held at the Concert Hall of the SamsungElectronics Talent Development Center in Yongin. Chairman Lee, along with the bereaved family, Samsung executives, and employees, are expected to attend.

Samsung has annually held a memorial concert attended by the bereaved family, key executives, and employees to honor the late chairman. In 2023 and 2024, pianist Cho Seong-jin performed, and last year, the company invited cellist Han Jae-min, pianist Park Jae-hong, and the Los Angeles (LA) Philharmonic.

The late Chairman Lee succeeded his father, founding Chairman Lee Byung-chul, as the second chairman of the Samsung Group following his father’s passing in 1987. He is credited with transforming Samsung into a global corporation by emphasizing quality and technological innovation. After suffering a heart attack in 2014, the late Chairman Lee battled illness for over six years before passing away on October 25, 2020, at the age of 78.
