[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] #BIO PORT KOREA, a company specializing in K-food, announced on the 19th that it has acquired Family Farm, the manufacturer of the sweet potato snack “Baskakho,” which has seen a surge in consumer interest following its appearance on the popular variety show “I Live Alone,” and is accelerating its push into the healthy snack market. (Photo courtesy of BIO PORT KOREA) Located in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, Family Farm is a manufacturer specializing in healthy snacks. Its flagship product, “Baskakha,” is made by thinly slicing 100% domestically sourced sweet potatoes and baking them as is; it is characterized by its uniquely crisp texture achieved without deep-frying. Recently, a scene from the MBC variety show “I Live Alone” featuring TV personality Kim Shin-young enjoying the product aired, causing it to gain popularity as the “Kim Shin-young Sweet Potato Chips.” Immediately after the broadcast, orders surged, leading to temporary sell-outs on online stores, and inquiries regarding product supply have been pouring in from overseas markets such as Taiwan and Japan. The two companies have maintained a partnership since 2022, with BIO PORT KOREA distributing and selling approximately 70–80% of Family Farm’s total production. Through years of distribution experience, BIO PORT KOREA has confirmed the product appeal and market demand for “Baskak-ho.” Consequently, BIO PORT KOREA decided to acquire management control of Family Farm based on the product’s proven quality and future growth potential. The plan is to secure a proven infrastructure while combining Family Farm’s manufacturing expertise with BIO PORT KOREA’s domestic and international sales and distribution networks to fully expand the healthy snack business. Following the acquisition, the company plans to first resolve production bottlenecks to establish a stable supply system. While significantly increasing the domestic supply volume of its flagship product, “Baskahago,” BIO PORT KOREA will also leverage its global network to expand into overseas markets in phases. Furthermore, drawing on Family Farm’s research and development (R&D) capabilities, the company plans to introduce a diverse lineup of healthy snacks made with domestically produced agricultural products. A BIO PORT KOREA official explained, “Family Farm is a key partner that has long handled distribution and sales directly, and we are confident in the product’s competitiveness and market potential.” The official added, “We decided to acquire management control to establish a stable production base in response to the recent surge in demand.”
