[Edaily Reporter Kang Min-koo ] Contact Co., Ltd. ( CONTEC Co.,Ltd(451760)), a company specializing in space ground station services, successfully transmitted and received data from the “DaejeonSAT-1” satellite using its own infrastructure, demonstrating its technical capabilities in private space infrastructure.
CONTEC Co.,Ltd announced on the 26th that it had established two-way communication between “DaejeonSAT-1”—which entered orbit via the Korean-developed Nuri launch vehicle on the 7th—and a ground station it built and owns.

(Photo courtesy of CONTEC Co.,Ltd) CONTEC Co.,Ltd is the only South Korean company specializing in global space ground station services, operating a network of 16 ground stations across 11 countries worldwide, including Jeju. As the focus of the space industry is rapidly shifting from hardware (launch vehicles and satellites) manufacturing to service areas such as data reception, processing, and utilization, the value of a seamless network capable of handling the surge in low-Earth orbit satellites is growing increasingly important. This success demonstrates that CONTEC Co.,Ltd.’s ground station infrastructure has entered the operational phase.
In particular, this communication demonstrated the capabilities of a private ground station by supporting the operation of an in-orbit satellite using only CONTEC Co.,Ltd.’s proprietary infrastructure, thereby breaking free from dependence on overseas ground stations.
“DaejeonSat” is a satellite project launched with the aim of enhancing Korea’s self-reliance in space technology and broadening the base of the space industry ecosystem. Immediately after the satellite reached its orbit, two-way communication with CONTEC Co.,Ltd’s ground station began. Subsequently, initial core communication processes—such as receiving status information and transmitting ground operation commands—were carried out flawlessly.
Drawing on its extensive experience in satellite communications both domestically and internationally, CONTEC Co.,Ltd provided support for core technologies ranging from the initial communication phase to orbital data processing and signal acquisition.
The success of a space mission hinges on maintaining a “stable data pipeline” between the satellite in orbit and the ground following launch. Contech handled the initial communication and status verification procedures using its own infrastructure.
A CONTEC Co.,Ltd official stated, “CONTEC Co.,Ltd has proven that it possesses world-class capabilities to reliably provide advanced communication services to satellites in actual orbit, going beyond its ground station engineering capabilities,” adding, “Moving forward, we will leverage our proprietary ground station network to provide differentiated services to domestic and international satellite operators and take the lead in strengthening the global competitiveness of the private space industry.”
