[New York = E-Daily Seong Joowon Correspondent] U.S. President Donald Trump raised allegations of election fraud regarding the presidential runoff election in which Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s reelection was confirmed. However, he did not present any specific evidence to support these claims.

According to Reuters and Bloomberg on the 26th (local time), President Trump told reporters that day that the results of the Brazilian presidential runoff held the previous day “looked like another rigged election.”
President Trump stated, “I didn’t take sides,” but argued, “An election should be so clear that no one can dispute it, but to my eyes, it looked very bad.”
In particular, he took issue with the Brazilian Supreme Court’s decision to extend voting hours at the last minute on election day. President Trump said, “The election and the vote-counting process looked very bad,” adding, “The extension of voting hours was very strange.”
In Brazil, left-leaning President Lula defeated right-wing candidate Flávio Bolsonaro in the presidential runoff held on the 25th, securing his fourth term in office. Bolsonaro has refused to concede defeat and is demanding that the runoff be declared invalid.
Bolsonaru is the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who had a close relationship with President Trump. Former President Jair Bolsonaro also refused to accept his defeat in the presidential election four years ago and was subsequently convicted of plotting a coup to overturn the election results.
However, President Trump did not provide a specific answer as to whether he would take any specific action in response to the Brazilian election results. Instead, he said he “maintains a very good relationship” with President Lula.
As the Trump administration has recently welcomed election victories by right-wing candidates in Latin American countries, attention is now focused on how U.S.-Brazil relations might change in light of the results of this Brazilian presidential election.
