[Edaily Reporter Choi Oh-hyun ] On the 27th, marking the fourth anniversary of his appointment, SamsungElectronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee visited a robotics research and development (R&D) facility to assess the competitiveness of future new businesses. Instead of holding a separate commemorative event or issuing a message, he continued his technology-focused management approach by personally inspecting the robotics business—which he has designated as a next-generation growth engine.

This was his first on-site visit since the RX Business Promotion Office was launched last July.
It is expected that Chairman Lee received a briefing on the current status of humanoid robot technology being developed by the research team and reviewed commercialization strategies. SamsungElectronics is expected to unveil a humanoid robot at “CES 2027,” the world’s largest consumer electronics and information technology (IT) exhibition, to be held in Las Vegas, U.S., next January.
The RX Business Promotion Office is responsible for developing “Samsung-branded humanoid robots.” Reporting directly to Noh Tae-moon, Head of the DEVICE (DX) Division, the office was launched last July by consolidating robot-related personnel from the Future Robotics Promotion Team, the Samsung Research Robotics Center, and the Production Technology Research Institute. The plan is to accelerate the process from robot development to commercialization by consolidating previously dispersed technical capabilities.
Chairman Lee’s visit to the robotics research site on the fourth anniversary of his inauguration is interpreted as a demonstration of his commitment to robotics development as a future growth engine. Following the acquisition of Rainbow Robotics as a subsidiary, SamsungElectronics has set a plan to transform its domestic and international manufacturing facilities into AI-powered autonomous factories by 2030. The company plans to apply AI to production, logistics, and quality control, and to gradually introduce humanoid manufacturing robots.
Earlier, in 2024, Chairman Lee had also chosen the Seoul R&D Campus as the first site for his on-site management tour of the new year, emphasizing that “the more difficult the times, the more we need proactive R&D and unwavering investment.”
