On the 2nd, Celltrion Pharm Inc. announced that it had begun domestic sales of the 40mg pre-filled syringe (PFS-S) version of Uplima, following its new inclusion in the National Health Insurance reimbursement list the previous day.
A PFS is a syringe pre-filled with medication. The newly launched PFS-S features a safety device that covers the needle after injection; it is designed to reduce needle exposure after use, thereby helping healthcare professionals handle the product safely.
The price of Uplima 40mg PFS-S is 220,390 won per single dose, which is the lowest among 40mg products with the same active ingredient covered by national health insurance in Korea. This provides an affordable treatment option for patients requiring long-term therapy while also allowing them to choose between this product and the existing pen-type injector based on their condition, administration environment, and personal preference.
Celltrion Pharm Inc. plans to launch Uplima 20mg PFS in Korea next year. With the addition of this low-dose product, the company will establish a domestic product lineup that matches both the strength and dosage form of the originator drug. This is expected to broaden the prescription base, allowing healthcare professionals to select the most appropriate product based on the patient’s condition and required dosage.
A Celltrion Pharm Inc. spokesperson stated, “For patients undergoing long-term treatment, it is important to select a product that considers not only the cost-effectiveness of the medication but also the administration method and post-use handling,” adding, “Based on Uplima’s competitive pricing and diverse product portfolio, we will continue to meet the treatment needs of patients and healthcare providers.”
