Research on Intelligent Robot Systems That Collaborate with Humans
Opens Research Center at Headquarters in Palo Alto, California; to Conduct Joint Research with Seoul
[Edaily Reporter An Yu-ri ] Ludo Robotics, a U.S.-based robotics research subsidiary of KRAFTON(259960), has unveiled “Rudy 0.2,” an AI designed for collaborative robots that understands human speech and behavior. The company is expanding its AI research capabilities, honed through gaming, into real-world robotics.
Ludo Robotics showcased Rudy 0.2 at the Bay Area Robotics Symposium held at UC Berkeley on the 30th of last month. Lee Kang-wook, KRAFTON’s CAIO (Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer) and Ludo Robotics’ CTO (Chief Technology Officer), delivered the presentation. As the successor to Rudy 0.1, which was unveiled last August, this model features enhanced capabilities to understand human intent and respond to changes in the environment and instructions.
The key lies in the robot’s “social intelligence.” Ludo Robotics is researching technology that goes beyond simply having robots understand Saramin requests to enable them to comprehend conversations, feedback, and body language, and act accordingly in changing situations.
Rudy 0.1 is a system that combines a Vision-Language Model (VLM)—which handles conversation and reasoning—with mobility and object manipulation capabilities. For example, if a robot is asked to fetch a drink but receives a new instruction to switch to a different drink while moving, it will stop its current action and act according to the new request.
Rudy 0.2 further advanced memory and reasoning, the integration of locomotion, manipulation, and interaction, gesture understanding, and physical movement. It focused on enabling the robot to communicate more naturally with Saramins while maintaining the context of the task.
Ludo Robotics is also developing “Rudy 1.0,” a next-generation foundation model that integrates environmental perception, conversation, and physical actions into a single model. The goal is to create a system where users can share the context of a task with the robot and communicate in real time.
The company has also expanded its research footprint. Ludo Robotics has opened a headquarters research lab in Palo Alto, California, and is conducting AI and robotics research in conjunction with its Seoul office. KRAFTON plans to expand its research into physical AI, leveraging its experience in building virtual worlds for games.
Ludo Robotics, a subsidiary established by KRAFTON last year, is developing systems that can respond stably and flexibly to various real-world situations through the efforts of researchers and engineers in the fields of robotics, machine learning, and AI. The goal is to create robots that work alongside people in homes, workplaces, and public spaces. Ludo Robotics views social intelligence as a key factor driving the advancement of robotics technology and the broad social application of robots, and is researching related technologies with KRAFTON’s support.
Kim Chang-han, CEO of KRAFTON and CEO of Ludo Robotics, said, “For nearly 20 years, KRAFTON has been creating virtual worlds where people interact in real time through games,” adding, “Based on this experience, we will develop AI for robots that can naturally communicate and collaborate with people in the real world.”
