Netflix announced on the 6th, “The film ‘Possible Love’ will be released at 5 p.m. on the 6th.”

“Possible Love” tells the story of two couples—a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary director and her husband—who meet to produce a documentary and come face-to-face with each other’s different lives and hidden desires.

Director Lee Chang-dong is a master filmmaker whose artistic vision and directing skills have been recognized at leading film festivals worldwide with every project, including the Best Director Award at the 59th Venice International Film Festival for *Oasis*, the Best Screenplay Award at the 63rd Cannes International Film Festival for *Poetry*, and the Vulcan Award (Technical Award) and the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Prize at the 71st Cannes International Film Festival for *Burning*.

*Possible Love* also proved the director’s enduring mastery by becoming the first Korean film to win the Grand Jury Prize at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, the first Korean to receive the TIFF Everett Director’s Award at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival’s Tribute Awards, and the Otter Award at the 49th Mill Valley Film Festival.

Director Lee stated, “I’d like to describe *Possible Love* as a film about love. It’s not just about love between a man and a woman, but about the love people experience throughout their lives—or the love they must embrace.”

The second highlight is the powerful ensemble cast, featuring actors who have proven their presence on the global stage coming together in a single film. Jeon Do-yeon reunites with Director Lee Chang-dong for the first time since *Secret Sunshine*, which earned her the Best Actress Award at the 60th Cannes Film Festival. Seol Kyung-gu, who left a deep impression on the global film industry through *Peppermint Candy* and *Oasis*, has also reunited with Director Lee Chang-dong for *Possible Love*. Jeon Do-yeon and Seol Kyung-gu, who have built a long-standing relationship of trust with Director Lee Chang-dong, are expected to deliver intense, nuanced performances with an even deeper chemistry in this film.

Jo In-sung and Jo Yeo-jeong are meeting Director Lee Chang-dong for the first time through *Possible Love*. Another point of interest is the new facets and synergy these two actors—each with distinct personalities and acting ranges—will showcase within Director Lee Chang-dong’s cinematic universe. The narratives of the characters, brought to life by the four actors’ profound performances, along with the delicate and nuanced relationships that form between them, are expected to further heighten the audience’s immersion.

The final highlight is the meticulous production design, which allows viewers to fully sense the traces of the characters’ lived experiences. Since realism is crucial to *Possible Love*, Director Lee Chang-dong worked closely with the production team to capture the characters’ lives and emotions, as well as the film’s unique mood and texture.

Director of Photography Kim Ji-yong created the sensation that viewers are witnessing the scene firsthand and experiencing the moment directly by having the camera naturally follow and react to the characters and situations, while minimizing the use of film lighting equipment and making full use of natural light. Art Director Jang Min-woo designed spaces—such as the homes of “Mi-ok” (Jeon Do-yeon) and “Ho-seok” (Seol Kyung-gu), and the vacation home of “Sang-woo” (Jo In-sung) and “Ye-ji” (Jo Yeo-jeong)—to feel like places where real people live, ensuring that the characters’ lives and the passage of time could be naturally felt within them, thereby establishing the spaces’ authenticity.

Music Director Jeong Jae-il, who crafted the film’s unique, lyrical score, built upon a foundation of regularly repeating single piano notes, layering various melodies and sounds to create variations in each scene and convey a rich emotional depth. With cinematography, art direction, and music organically intertwined in this way, the production of *Possible Love* heightens the sense of realism and is set to leave a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.

“Possible Love” is director Lee Chang-dong’s new film, his first in eight years since “Burning.” Following its selection as South Korea’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards, the film achieved a series of remarkable accomplishments, including becoming the first Korean film to win the Grand Jury Prize (Silver Lion) at the Venice International Film Festival, the TIFF Everett Director Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Otter Award at the Mill Valley Film Festival.
