These are comments posted on a video of the girl group BESTie performing their chart-reversal hit “Love Options” on MBC’s “Show! Music Core” on the 31st of last month. Comments expressing delight and support for BESTie’s performance—marking their reunion after about eight years—continue to pour in. As of 2:00 p.m. on the 6th, the video had recorded 7.16 million views and over 13,000 comments on YouTube. It has the highest view count among “Show! Music Core” videos posted in the second half of this year.
BESTIE is a four-member girl group consisting of Hye-yeon (35), Yu-ji (35), Da-hye (33), and Hae-ryeong (31). Signed to YNB Entertainment, they debuted in 2013 and promoted with songs such as “Conditions of Love,” “Thank U Very Much,” “Hot Baby,” and “Excuse Me.”
Since disbanding in 2018, the members have pursued their own paths. The song that brought them back together is “Conditions of Love,” released in October 2013 during their early days. Written and composed by Brave Brothers, the song began to gain renewed attention starting last May, primarily through short-form content. Since then, as past performance videos and dance challenges have consistently gone viral online, the song has also climbed the music charts.
Last September, the song successfully entered the Top 100 chart on Melon, South Korea’s largest music streaming platform. “Conditions of Love,” which reached No. 64 at the time, has continued its upward trend and recently hit a peak position of No. 13. It is now on the verge of breaking into the Top 10.
The resurgence in popularity has spread beyond Korea to overseas markets. “Conditions of Love” simultaneously topped the Spotify and iTunes charts in Taiwan the previous day. It also demonstrated its presence across Asia, reaching No. 3 and No. 6 on the iTunes charts in Hong Kong and Malaysia, respectively.

◇Different Agencies… Variables for Future Activities
Most notably, this resurgence has led to an actual return to the music scene. After deciding to reunite last month, the members even took the stage on “Show! Music Core.” This is an unprecedented case of a disbanded girl group reappearing on a music show with a song released 13 years ago. It has been approximately 4,000 days since BESTIE last performed as a full group on a music show.
The members received widespread praise for their stable live performance and choreography despite the long hiatus. Comments praised their charm, which had matured significantly since their previous active days, and many expressed how moved they were by the reunion itself. There are also quite a few voices hoping for additional music show appearances and the release of a new song.
Attention is now focused on whether the reunion will go beyond a one-time event and lead to a full-fledged resumption of activities. The fact that the members are currently signed to different agencies is a variable that could affect future activities. Since each member had pre-scheduled commitments prior to this surprise comeback, coordinating their schedules will be necessary for any additional activities. In Yoo Ji’s case, she is currently starring in the musical “Frozen,” which runs through March of next year, making it difficult for her to devote herself to group activities for the time being. In this production, Yoo Ji is part of a triple cast alongside Jung Sun-ah and Min Kyung-ah, all playing the lead role of Elsa.
A music industry insider stated, “Unlike the case of I.O.I, who reunited in the first half of this year, the members did not come together with a predetermined schedule for their activities. Therefore, it appears that coordinating the members’ schedules will take considerable time before they can release a new song.”
For now, it is reported that BESTIE’s management is exploring ways to continue their activities, such as persistently reaching out to music programs on various broadcast networks to secure additional appearances. Plans for a new song release and long-term group activities have not yet been finalized. Attention is focused on whether this opportunity—their first in eight years—will lead to the release of a new song and sustained group activities.
