SN Systems Expands Cooperation with U.S.-Based Conrad Shipyard in the LNG Bunkering Market

Conrad Shipyard Officials Visit Busan Eco Center

[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh-seok] #SNCIS, a provider of integrated shipbuilding equipment solutions, announced on the 15th that representatives from the U.S.-based Conrad Shipyard visited the Busan Eco Center on the 11th to inspect the company’s technological capabilities and production capacity for LNG fuel supply and eco-friendly ship solutions. Taking this visit as an opportunity, the two companies discussed cooperation strategies in the U.S. eco-friendly ship market, including LNG bunkering barges, and S&C plans to accelerate the expansion of related business opportunities.

Conrad Shipyard is a specialized shipbuilder with five shipyards along the Louisiana and Texas coasts in the U.S. It has a track record of building and delivering “Clean Jacksonville,” North America’s first LNG bunkering barge, in 2018. Recently, the company has been expanding its influence in the U.S. LNG infrastructure market, including exploring a partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries in the LNG bunkering sector.
According to SNC, the purpose of this visit to Conrad Shipyard was to directly verify the core technologies and production systems applied to LNG bunkering facilities.
LNG bunkering is a field that requires a high level of safety and precise gas control capabilities throughout the entire process of storage, transfer, and supply. It necessitates the organic integration of design, manufacturing, and control capabilities for key systems such as the Cargo Handling System (CHS), Fuel Gas Supply System (FGSS), gas control, and the Integrated Automation System (IAS). The industry believes that there are few companies worldwide capable of providing such core facilities in the form of a “one-stop integrated solution.”
LNG bunkering barges are specialized vessels designed to transport and supply LNG to LNG-powered ships in both offshore and inland waterways, and they are emerging as a key infrastructure component amid the growing trend toward eco-friendly ships. As environmental regulations from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) tighten and orders for LNG-powered ships increase, demand for LNG bunkering is on an upward trend, particularly in major shipping hubs such as the United States, Europe, and Singapore.
Building on the LNG handling technology it has accumulated in the LNG carrier and dual-fuel vessel sectors, SNCIS has carried out various projects in the FGSS and IAS fields. In addition, the company is now supplying integrated LNG bunkering facility solutions that combine LNG CHS and gas control systems. Leveraging its integrated capabilities—spanning design, manufacturing, and control—the company plans to fully enter the U.S. LNG bunkering market.
The company has already secured its first reference in the U.S. market. Previously, SNC made a name for itself in the U.S. shipbuilding and marine market by supplying the navigation control system for Hanwha Philippines Shipyard’s first “MASGA” project. SNC plans to use this visit to Conrad Shipyard’s Busan Eco Center as a springboard to continue pursuing new projects in the North American shipbuilding and marine sectors and expanding business partnerships.
