Chaebi Obtains European Cybersecurity CE Certification

CE Cybersecurity NB Certification Obtained for Electric Vehicle Chargers Strengthening the Competitiveness of European Markets

[Edaily Reporter Lee Hye-ra] #Chaebi announced on the 15th that it has obtained the European Union CE Cybersecurity NB (Notified Body) certification for its electric vehicle chargers.

The certification obtained by Chabi was conducted in accordance with the European Union’s Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the international cybersecurity standard ‘EN 18031.’ It involved a comprehensive verification of compliance with key security requirements, including communication security for EV charging infrastructure, access control, firmware integrity, and security update systems.
Chaebi obtained NB (Notified Body) certification, a third-party verification method based on testing and evaluation by an external specialized agency, rather than the methods commonly used in the industry. During the certification process, Chaebi applied encryption technology to the communication link between chargers and servers and established an integrity verification system to block the installation of unauthorized software and malicious firmware.
It has enhanced the operational stability of its charging infrastructure by incorporating an automatic security update system and administrator-authentication-based access control features. During this certification testing, Chabi successfully completed functional compliance verification across various items, including defense against brute-force attacks, protection of communication data, countermeasures against replay attacks, and defense against Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks.
The European market has recently been rapidly raising its cybersecurity requirements for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The company explains that Chabi possesses a structural competitive advantage amid this trend. Chaebi is a vertically integrated operator that combines charger manufacturing with charging infrastructure operations (CPO). This allows the company to apply security technologies from the hardware design stage and quickly incorporate real-world threat data accumulated during operations into product development. Based on a full-cycle security response system that spans both manufacturing and operations, the company can effectively address increasingly stringent security standards.
Building on this certification, Chabi plans to establish an integrated security system that extends beyond individual product security to include operational and management domains. The company also intends to accelerate its overseas expansion by extending its compliance efforts to meet security standards in the North American market, following its success in Europe.
Choi Young-hoon, CEO of Chabi, stated, “Since EV chargers are devices that communicate in real time with vehicle software, security stability has become another pillar of service competitiveness alongside charging performance in the era of ultra-fast charging.” He added, “Having secured world-class charging infrastructure security technology capabilities based on Chabi’s unique business structure that encompasses both charger manufacturing and operation, we will repay user trust by providing stable charging services and establishing a systematic security infrastructure.”
Since its listing on KOSDAQ last April, Chabi has been accelerating its overseas business expansion with the U.S. as a key hub. Recently, it became the first domestic charging operator to participate in the Qatar Electricity Authority’s public charging infrastructure demonstration project and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with EEE, a UAE energy infrastructure company, marking the full-scale launch of its push into the Middle East market. Additionally, the company is accelerating the advancement of next-generation ultra-fast charging technologies, such as the Megawatt Charging System (MCS).
