[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon] KOSDAQ-listed company #Vect is set to target the edge data center market, which is emerging as a key infrastructure in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
Vect announced on the 15th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with industrial AI firm Korea Livestock Data (AID) to jointly pursue a Modular Data Center (MDC) business. (Photo courtesy of Vect) AID had previously signed an agreement with Simplatform, an industrial AI transformation (AX) platform company, to expand MDC-based digital infrastructure. Building on this collaboration, the three companies plan to combine their respective capabilities to establish a joint MDC business framework.
MDC is an edge data center solution that is growing as the expansion of AI infrastructure intersects with shortages of power and land, as well as the demand for rapid deployment. While building a traditional data center takes years, MDC allows for installation and operation within a few months by prefabricating key components. It offers the advantage of being able to quickly respond to the surging demand for data processing driven by the proliferation of generative AI, industrial IoT (IoT), and 5G.
In particular, since MDCs can be deployed near the sites where data is generated, they reduce data processing latency and lower operating costs compared to centralized data centers.
AID is a company that has commercialized edge-type container MDCs, which combine IT infrastructure with AI platforms. It has developed a plug-and-play system that can be operational immediately with just a power connection and has demonstrated its technological capabilities in the global market by supplying MDCs to countries such as India, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom.
Based on over 20 years of experience in the digital signage business, Vect possesses a nationwide sales network and installation and maintenance capabilities. Simplatform has platform technology capable of collecting, analyzing, and utilizing AI data generated in industrial settings.
The three companies plan to expand their business across various industries, ranging from primary industries to high-tech manufacturing. They intend to first expand their market presence in sectors with high demand for real-time data processing and also seek business opportunities linked to public and private projects, such as the government’s digital transformation policies and smart industrial complex development initiatives.
According to market research firm Grand View Research, the global MDC market is projected to grow from $34 billion in 2025 to $75.8 billion in 2030. The compound annual growth rate is expected to exceed 17%.
Yoo Chang-soo, CEO of VECT, stated, “Demand for on-site data processing is surging due to the expansion of the AI industry,” adding, “The three companies will lead the market with differentiated MDC competitiveness by combining their respective strengths.” He further noted, “We plan to quickly secure early success stories and expand beyond the domestic market into overseas markets.”
