[Edaily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] GS Holdings, a convenience store chain operated by GS Retail(007070), announced on the 30th that it will begin selling 18 products from its flagship private brand (PB), “YOU US,” at Don Quijote stores in Japan starting at the end of this month.
Following the export of about 10 differentiated products through Don Quijote last year, GS Holdings launched its flagship private-label products, “Omori Kimchi Stew Ramen” and “Omori Kimchi Cheese Stir-Fried Noodles,” in January. “Squid Game Random Dalgona” was selected as a Don Quijote hit product, and Omori Kimchi Jjigae Ramen ranked among the top sellers in the Korean ramen category.
Building on these achievements, GS Holdings and Don Quijote have decided to expand their export product lineup and volume. The latest export shipment includes five types of ramen, six types of snacks, and seven types of pouch drinks; these products will be sold on GS Holdings-exclusive displays in prominent locations, such as at the entrances of Don Quijote stores.
The export volume for this shipment has been set at approximately 250,000 units. Including this shipment, the cumulative volume of products GS Holdings has supplied to Japan through Don Quijote exceeds 500,000 units.
Considering the strong interest among Japanese consumers in K-food, GS Holdings is considering expanding the range of products exported to Don Quijote. The two companies also plan to continuously expand their collaboration, including the export of private-label and differentiated products, as well as the launch of jointly developed products.
GS Holdings exports approximately 600 product varieties to some 30 countries, including not only Japan but also Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. The company received the “$10 Million Export Tower” award last year and aims to achieve $15 million in exports by 2027.
Kim Hye-joong, Manager of the Import/Export MD Team at GS Retail, said, “Thanks to the high interest and positive response from Japanese consumers toward GS25’s private-label and differentiated products, we have expanded our export lineup to Don Quijote.” She added, “Moving forward, we will continue to elevate the status of ‘K-convenience stores’ in the global market by leveraging GS25’s unique competitive edge in differentiated products.”
