Second Commercialization of a Digital Medical Device Following AppNoteTrack; Expansion of Pharmaceutical Distribution Partnerships
Sleep Rhythm Tracking on the 14th: The Digital Transformation of Sleep Tracking and Assessment, Which Previously Relied on Sleep Diaries and Surveys
[Edaily Reporter Kim Seung-kwon ] Sleep AI company A-Sleep announced on August 19 that it had signed a domestic distribution and sales agreement with HANDOK Inc.(002390)for “ChronoTrack,” a digital medical device that tracks sleep rhythms. With this agreement, A-Sleep has commercialized the digital medical device ChronoTrack through pharmaceutical distribution channels, following its distribution partnership with CHONGKUNDANG for AppNoteTrack, a medical device app for sleep apnea testing.
Within six months of its launch, AppNoTrack was adopted by more than 400 hospitals and clinics nationwide, as well as more than 10 tertiary general hospitals, proving the market potential of prescription-based digital sleep testing. Through Chronotrack, A-Sleep plans to expand its medical device business into the areas of sleep apnea and its two major associated conditions: insomnia and sleep rhythm disorders.

The number of patients with sleep disorders in Korea reached 1,308,383 in 2024, marking an increase of approximately 26% over the five-year period from 1,037,396 in 2020. Sleep disorders go beyond mere discomfort and are associated with the risk of chronic diseases and cardiovascular conditions, making them a critical factor in health management.
Objectively assessing sleep patterns is crucial for managing sleep disorders. Until now, methods such as sleep diaries and polysomnography have been used to track sleep patterns. However, sleep diaries often rely on patients’ subjective records, and polysomnography has the limitation of being infrequently used in clinical settings.
ChronoTrack is a digital medical device for recording sleep rhythms that addresses these limitations. Users simply need to place their smartphone next to their bed, and the device automatically records 14 days of sleep data through AI analysis based on breathing and movement sounds during sleep. Without the need for separate wearable devices or contact sensors, it objectively analyzes key sleep metrics—such as total sleep time (TST), sleep efficiency (SE), sleep onset latency (SoL), wake after sleep onset (WASO), and sleep regularity index (SRI)—enabling healthcare professionals to more accurately assess patients’ conditions and continuously monitor treatment efficacy. Another key feature is that it qualifies for statutory non-reimbursable coverage, meaning it can be immediately implemented in clinical settings without the need to establish new fee schedules.
A-Sleep’s sleep analysis technology has been validated against polysomnography through joint research with Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and Stanford University School of Medicine in the U.S., and the related research results have been published in international academic journals such as *Sleep Medicine* and *JMIR mHealth and uHealth*. Recently, the company has been participating as a representative of Korean companies in the development of sleep tech standards led by the CTA, with Apple and Google playing key roles.
HANDOK Inc., which handles distribution and sales, is expanding its business into the digital healthcare sector by leveraging the expertise and network of medical professionals it has built through its prescription insomnia medications. The company has established a distinct competitive edge in the sleep sector, notably by introducing “SleepQ,” a prescription-based digital therapeutic device for insomnia. A-Sleep plans to expand the adoption of Chronotrack in clinical settings through HANDOK Inc.’s nationwide sales network and expertise in sleep disorders, while raising awareness of the importance of sleep tracking and assessment through academic and educational activities.
A-Sleep CEO Lee Dong-heon stated, “In this era of convergent pharmaceuticals—where medications and digital technology intersect—accurate sleep monitoring is the starting point for all treatment,” adding, “Alongside prescription medications for insomnia and digital cognitive behavioral therapy, ChronoTrack will serve as the cornerstone of monitoring and assessment, and we will do our utmost to ensure HANDOK Inc.’s comprehensive, full-cycle care for sleep rhythm disorders is fully realized.”
Kim Mi-yeon, President of HANDOK Inc., said, “Sleep health can be improved when accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and continuous management are organically linked.” She added, “Through Chronotrack, HANDOK Inc. will strengthen its sleep monitoring capabilities and realize ‘HANDOK Sleep Science’ based on the synergy between prescription medications for insomnia and the digital therapeutic device, SleepQ.”
