CJ ENM CO., Ltd. Expands into India with Six Thai Dramas Based on Korean IP… Global Expansion of ‘K-Content IP’

Remakes of shows such as “The Good Doctor” and “Why Secretary Kim?” Amazon Unveils MX Player Original Korean Production → Thai Remake → Distribution in India

[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] CJ ENM CO., Ltd.(035760)is expanding its global IP business by launching a Thai remake based on the intellectual property (IP) of a popular Korean drama in India.

CJ ENM CO., Ltd. announced on the 1st that its Hong Kong subsidiary will release all episodes of six dramas produced by its Thai joint venture, True CJ Creations, via Amazon MX Player—an ad-supported free OTT (AVOD) platform in India—starting on the 2nd.

The series being released are remakes of hit Korean dramas adapted for the Thai market. The lineup includes six Thai dramas based on the original works *The Good Doctor*, *Why Secretary Kim?*, *Signal*, *Start-Up*, *Happiness*, and *Black Dog*.

The series will be available with both English subtitles and Hindi dubbing to enhance accessibility for Indian viewers.

This release follows a previous collaboration in which 18 K-content titles were made available on Amazon MX Player last year. CJ ENM CO., Ltd. plans to use this as an opportunity to fully expand its IP business model, which involves localizing Korean IP in various countries and then redistributing it to the global market.

In particular, this initiative—which involves introducing Thai remakes of Korean originals to the Indian market—is seen as a case study demonstrating the global expansion potential of Korean IP, going beyond simple content exports.

The lineup spans a variety of genres—including romance, thriller, sci-fi, and human drama—aiming to appeal to Indian audiences.

A representative from CJ ENM CO., Ltd.’s Hong Kong subsidiary stated, “Demand for Asian content in the global market is steadily increasing,” adding, “Through strategic partnerships and format localization, we will continue to expand new content business opportunities that combine Korea’s mega-hit IP with Southeast Asia’s excellent storytelling.”
