[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] Kim Dong-wan, a member of the group Shinhwa, has announced his intention to continue his activities independently without signing an exclusive contract with his agency for the time being. On the 4th, Kim Dong-wan posted on his social media, stating, “I have ultimately decided to go it alone without an agency,” and added, “After careful consideration, I have concluded that continuing to work independently, as I am now, suits me best.”
Although he did not mention specific future plans, it appears he will continue his activities without a separate management contract for the time being.
This decision is drawing even more attention as it comes in the wake of recent social media controversies.
Kim Dong-wan recently drew attention by actively sharing his thoughts on various social issues through his social media. While some of his comments—such as his criticism of the culture of trivializing poverty—resonated with the public, he faced fierce criticism for posts that could be interpreted as condoning prostitution, as well as for publicly supporting MC Dingdong, a broadcaster who was embroiled in a controversy over assaulting a female streamer.
As the controversy continued, Kim Dong-wan signaled a change in how he manages his social media. He stated, “From now on, my Instagram and Threads accounts will be managed from the office,” indicating his intention to adjust how he handles his personal accounts.
He later opened up about his reflections on his words and actions. “I’ve come to realize anew that this isn’t just a matter of a single mistake on my part, but that it can affect the people caught up in the incident and even their families,” he said, expressing a sense of responsibility.
Amid this situation, Kim Dong-wan has personally declared that he will continue his activities without being affiliated with a specific agency, drawing attention to his future plans. As he intends to pursue independent activities while also changing how he manages his social media, all eyes are on how he will communicate with the public and continue his career moving forward.
