It selects winners in three categories: Product Design, Brand and Communication Design, and Design Concept. The Design Concept category evaluates pre-production concepts and prototype designs based on innovation, technical feasibility, and production efficiency.
KNR SYSTEMS Inc. explained that this award represents international recognition of the design direction and commercialization potential of a robot still in the development stage, rather than a finished product. The Super Humanoid is currently under development, with a target release date of late this year.
The Super Humanoid is an industrial bipedal robot with a payload capacity of 600 kg. KNR SYSTEMS Inc. is developing this robot to be the world’s largest heavy-duty industrial bipedal robot. Designed as a large-scale robot capable of both manned and unmanned operation, it is intended for industrial sites requiring the handling of heavy loads and for deployment in extreme environments that are difficult for humans to access.
The company explained that the Super Humanoid is intended to occupy a different category from the 20–100 kg-class humanoid robots currently being developed by global companies such as Tesla’s Optimus, Figure, and Unitory. It is specifically designed for high-risk industrial sites, such as high-temperature environments near blast furnaces in steel mills, tunnels at risk of collapse, and nuclear power plant decommissioning sites where there is a risk of radiation exposure.
The design is also function-oriented, taking into account high-load and high-risk work environments. Visibility has been enhanced so that workers in industrial settings can intuitively recognize the robot’s position and movements, and the exterior structure has been robustly designed to withstand harsh conditions such as external impacts, falling objects, and dust. A stable form has also been adopted to reduce the psychological burden that large robots can impose.
Development is currently underway. KNR SYSTEMS Inc. has completed the production of the core actuators, fingers, and robotic hand, and is preparing for its unveiling following testing. The lower body has completed the design and engineering phases and has entered the manufacturing stage.
Kim Myung-han, CEO of KNR SYSTEMS Inc., stated, “The Super Humanoid has been recognized on the global design stage not merely as a robot that resembles a human, but as one designed to actually work in dangerous and harsh industrial environments.” He added, “We will continue to refine the robot’s performance so that it can work safely and reliably in environments where human access is difficult, such as heavy industry, construction, energy, and disaster relief.”
