[E-Daily Reporter KIM JI-WAN ] SCL Science(246960)announced on the 8th that its self-developed Class 4 absorbable hemostatic agent, “InnoSEAL Plus DL,” has successfully obtained a medical device code from Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital of The Catholic University of Korea and has completed the shipment of its initial batch.
This achievement comes seven years after the company’s listing under the technology exception program in February 2019, and one year after “InnoSEAL Plus DL” was approved for insurance reimbursement last year.
"InnoSEAL Plus DL," a Class 4 absorbable hemostatic agent developed in-house by SCL Science. InnoSEAL Plus DL is a third-generation innovative hemostatic agent based on the chemical polymer “chitosan-catechol (CHI-C),” inspired by the molecular structure of mussel adhesive protein.
Because it functions completely independently of the mechanism of action of blood clotting proteins, it is characterized by consistent and potent hemostatic efficacy even in patients taking anticoagulants (such as aspirin and warfarin) or those with coagulation disorders.
Based on the National Health Insurance reimbursement cap, the price of InnoSeal Plus DL is 239,950 won per unit (11x5 cm). Compared to the price of a standard imported fibrin patch—382,395 won (9.5x4.8 cm)—its unit price per area is only about 50% of that. Therefore, it is expected to offer tangible benefits in all aspects: hemostatic efficacy, profitability for healthcare facilities, and reduced financial burden on patients.
An SCL Science official stated, “We are already in the process of expanding our distribution network to all five St. Mary’s Hospitals affiliated with the Catholic University of Korea, and through this, we plan to build a stable prescription volume of around 1,500 units per month,” adding “We will continue to drive innovation in biomimetic medical devices by accelerating our entry into the country’s ‘Big 5’ major general hospitals, targeting the emergency and military supply markets, launching a full-scale expansion into the global hemostatic agent market, and expanding our product lineup to include Apee wound dressings and other products.”
