[E-Daily Reporter Hong Ju-yeon ] Celltrion(068270)is steadily supplying high-margin products to the European market. On the 10th, Celltrion announced that its high-margin follow-on product portfolio is recording steady growth across Europe and increasing its market influence.Celltrion’s chronic idiopathic urticaria treatment, “Omriclo.” (Image = Celltrion)
According to pharmaceutical market research firm IQVIA, “Omriclo” (active ingredient: omalizumab), a treatment for chronic idiopathic urticaria launched in Europe last September as a first-mover biosimilar, recorded a market share of approximately 16% as of the first quarter of this year.
“Vegzelma” (active ingredient: bevacizumab), a treatment for metastatic colorectal and breast cancer, is also maintaining its strong market presence. During the same period, Vegzelma recorded a market share of approximately 28% in Europe, retaining its position as the No. 1 bevacizumab product for 1 year and 9 months in a row.
Celltrion’s product portfolio continues to perform well in the autoimmune disease sector as well. First, “Uplima” (active ingredient: adalimumab) has been the top-prescribed drug in the European adalimumab market for one consecutive year, with a market share of approximately 22%. In particular, its performance is notably strong in the EU5 countries—which hold significant market influence—including the United Kingdom (49%) and Italy (46%).
“Stekima” (active ingredient: ustekinumab), a high-margin follow-on product, is also continuing its quarterly growth trend with a market share of approximately 9%. Sales efforts to maximize synergies across the product portfolio—such as bundling with other autoimmune disease products—are actively underway, and market share growth is expected to accelerate further.
To maximize the performance of its high-margin product portfolio, Celltrion plans to expand its local sales force and strengthen sales capabilities. At the same time, the company intends to actively pursue marketing activities targeting key opinion leaders (KOLs), including participation in major global conferences such as the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the Union for European Gastroenterology (UEGW).
Celltrion expects the performance of its high-margin follow-on product lines to show even steeper growth through the end of the year, driven by factors contributing to sales expansion in the second half of the year that are specific to the European pharmaceutical market, including: △tenders in major European countries concentrated in the second and third quarters; △the arrival of initial shipments following tender results; and △an increase in year-end pharmaceutical inventory purchases compared to the beginning of the year.
A Celltrion official stated, “As high-margin follow-on products, including Omriclo, are driving higher prescription rates across Europe, we are expanding our market influence and strengthening the competitiveness of our portfolio.” The official added, “Given that large-scale tenders are scheduled to continue, particularly in key countries, we will spare no effort to achieve both sales expansion and resulting earnings growth in the second half of the year.”
