[Edaily Reporter SIN SOO-JUNG ] #KT&G Corporation Sangsang Madang announced on the 10th that it will host an exhibition featuring selected works from the 5th KT&G DAF, its exhibition support program for emerging artists, at the KT&G Sangsang Madang Daechi Gallery through September 2.

KT&G Corporation DAF is a visual arts support program that KT&G Sangsang Madang has been operating since 2021 to support contemporary art creation and revitalize the exhibition culture. This year marks its fifth edition.

The call for entries, open to emerging artists or teams with at least one prior group exhibition under their belt, ran for three weeks starting in April. The competition saw a ratio of approximately 260 applicants to one selected artist, and following the review process, artist Kim Ji-young was ultimately chosen.

A panel of expert judges evaluated the works based on their artistic merit, appeal to the general public, and relevance to the call for entries’ theme. Artist Kim received high praise for her use of artistic media such as fiber and embroidery to explore contemporary themes including the environment, ecology, and community healing.

The exhibition of the selected works is titled “On the Way: Gravity Practice.” Admission is free at the KT&G Sangsangmadang Daechi Gallery, and further details can be found on the KT&G Corporation website.

Kim Jeong-yun, Head of the Exhibition Division at KT&G Corporation’s Cultural Contribution Department, said, “It is deeply meaningful to be able to discover outstanding artists,” adding, “We will continue to strive to lay the groundwork for promising domestic artists to pursue their creative activities steadily by providing exhibition space and promotional support.”

KT&G Corporation Sangsang Madang is a multi-purpose cultural and arts space that supports the creative activities of emerging artists and operates cultural and arts programs. Beginning with the online Sangsang Madang in 2005, it currently operates in five locations: Hongdae, Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan.
