[Edaily Reporter NA EUN-KYUNG ] BreezeBio, a next-generation drug delivery platform company, announced on the 20th that it has signed a joint research agreement with LigaChem Biosciences(141080)to develop a new cancer vaccine.
The goal of this joint research is to validate the potential of next-generation cancer vaccines by combining BreezeBio’s hydrophilic nanoparticle (HNP) delivery platform with LigaChem Biosciences’ small-molecule immuno-oncology agents.
The two companies plan to evaluate whether they can inhibit tumor growth by selectively activating antigen-presenting cells (APCs) and inducing tumor antigen-specific immune responses through the combined use of BreezeBio’s HNPs loaded with tumor antigen messenger RNA (mRNA) and LigaChem Biosciences’ small-molecule immuno-oncology agents. If meaningful results are confirmed through this joint research, the two companies plan to pursue follow-up partnerships, including technology transfers for the development and commercialization of cancer vaccines.
Since BreezeBio’s mRNA technology was commercialized through the COVID-19 vaccine and has recently demonstrated clinical success in the field of personalized cancer vaccines, the company’s strategy is to expand the application of its delivery technology from autoimmune diseases to the field of cancer treatment through this research.
Lee Geun-woo, CEO of BreezeBio, stated, “The approach of combining different modalities is a major trend in recent new drug development.” He added, “Through this collaboration, which integrates small-molecule compounds, mRNA, and delivery technology, we plan to expand the delivery platform—which has been validated in the field of autoimmune diseases—into the field of cancer treatment, broaden our collaboration model with domestic biotech companies, and continuously strengthen the research capabilities of our Korean R&D center.”
Han Jin-hwan, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LigaChem Biosciences, remarked, “This is a meaningful study that confirms the synergy between two different modalities: small-molecule immuno-oncology agents and mRNA cancer vaccines,” adding, “We expect this to serve as an opportunity to expand our anti-cancer pipeline by combining the technologies of both companies.”
