[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] Singer and composer Kang Seung-sik has passed away at the age of 72.

According to the music industry on the 20th, Kang Seung-sik passed away the previous day while receiving treatment for sepsis at a hospital in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province. The wake for the deceased has been set up in VIP Room 402 at the Jeonju Geumseong Funeral Home in North Jeolla Province, and the funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on the 21st.
Born in 1954, Kang Seung-sik made his official debut in 1974 with “One Day, Two Days, Three Days” and went on to release songs such as “Don’t Forget My Heart” and “Twilight.” As a composer, he wrote hit songs for Jang Eun-sook, including “Let’s Dance” and “Your First Love.” In the mid-1980s, he founded the entertainment agency Mono Planning (River Productions) and produced albums such as Park Sang-kyu’s “Yekma” and Kang Young-sook’s “With an Empty Heart.”
The late Mr. Lee moved to the United States in the mid-1990s, where he hosted music-related programs, including singing contests, on Korean-American TV stations. While living there, he underwent a gastrectomy for stomach cancer. Expressing his wish to “be buried in Korea,” he returned to Korea in 2003 and subsequently settled in Jeonju and Samrye-eup, Wanju County, nearby.
The late Mr. Lee served as chairman of the Jeonbuk Branch of the Korea Singers Association and also founded the Jeonbuk Singers Association and the Yeongnam-Honam Cultural Exchange Association. He is survived by his wife, Yang Mi-kyung—a singer and former music instructor—and three sons and one daughter. Singer Seon Woo-seong, known for her hit “Champs-Élysées,” is the late Mr. Lee’s older sister.
