Shopping Mall 2” was held at the Conrad Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul. Lee Dong-wook, Kim Hye-jun, Jo Han-sun, Geum Hae-na, Kim Min, Jung Yoon-ha, Hyun Ri, Masaki Okada, and Director Lee Kwon attended the event.
Commenting on the recent domestic and international success of action-driven genre films such as “Manager Kim” and “True Education,” Lee Dong-wook said, “Just as a food street thrives when all its shops do well together, it seems these works are succeeding collectively. It’s an era where many people are seeking catharsis,” he explained. “We’ve been preparing ‘Killers’ Shopping Mall 2’ since two years ago, when Season 1 ended. It’s not a project created to ride the current trend, but rather one that consistently builds on what we’ve been doing all along.”
Released in 2024, “Killers’ Shopping Mall” gained popularity both domestically and internationally by depicting the survival story of Ji-an (played by Kim Hye-jun), a niece who becomes the target of suspicious killers due to the dangerous legacy left by her uncle, Jin-man (played by Lee Dong-wook). Riding on this popularity, the series is returning for Season 2. Season 2 follows Ji-an, who has become the new CEO of the shopping mall after a grueling handover, as she teams up with the resurrected Jin-man to launch a full-scale counterattack against the Babylon Global faction.
Jin Man, played by Lee Dong-wook, delivered a plot twist by returning alive after appearing to have died in Season 1. He said, “Season 2 begins by showing what Jung Jin-man has been up to,” adding, “I believe it will meet the expectations of many viewers.”
He continued, “Ji-an has set foot in this world, and there’s an emotional conflict as she struggles with how to ensure her nephew’s survival and what kind of life she herself will lead,” urging viewers to “look forward to those moments.”
Kim Hye-jun, who plays Ji-an, previewed Season 2, saying, “We’ll see her unconsciously starting to resemble her uncle, and her journey toward understanding him will be depicted.”
He also highlighted the differences from the original work. Director Lee Kwon noted, “Since Season 1 ended leaving questions unanswered, we expanded the story in Season 2 while considering how to resolve those curiosities.” He added, “While there are similarities to the original, we’ve made several adaptations. Season 2 unfolds along a different narrative arc than the original,” explaining, “We had no choice but to solidify the world-building and narrative.”
The production team of *Killers’ Shopping Mall 2* also expressed confidence in Season 2. Lee Dong-wook emphasized, “We started with the pressure to make it even more entertaining than Season 1.
