[Edaily Reporter Kim Min-jung ] Heartwarming news has emerged about comedian Pyo In-bong, who was widely loved in the 1990s as a member of the group Teen Teen Five.
On the 26th, a video titled “Why Comedian Pyo In-bong Is Baking Fish-Shaped Pastries in Front of Seoul Station” was released on the YouTube channel “CGN” (Christian Mission Broadcasting).(Photo: Screenshot from YouTube channel “CGN”)
In the video, Pyo In-bong visited Seoul Station Plaza with his wife, Yoo Jeong-hwa, and engaged in volunteer work by personally preparing fish-shaped buns and fish cakes to distribute to the homeless.
This volunteer effort began last winter at his wife’s suggestion. Pyo In-bong said, “My wife suggested that it would be nice to give freshly baked fish-shaped buns to the homeless on such a cold day, so we started doing this together.”
Pyo In-bong didn’t stop at simply sharing food. He added laughter to the scene by singing and performing magic tricks for the homeless people waiting for the fish-shaped buns.
“It was a great opportunity to share the Gospel,” he said, adding, “I continue this volunteer work with the mindset of fulfilling my calling as a Christian.”
Having overcome a long period of struggle through his faith, he chose the path of ministry later in life. “I didn’t realize God existed until I was over forty,” he said. “The more than 11 years I spent going through difficult times, during which I had no choice but to look to God alone, shaped who I am today.”
He also confided, “I prayed simply to be freed from alcohol, but God had a greater plan in store, and before I knew it, I found myself becoming a pastor.”
Pyo In-bong, who is also active as a performance producer, emphasized, “I can’t forget the glory of the applause I received during my time with Teen Teen Five when we were incredibly popular, but Christian musicals are a completely different endeavor—one where I don’t receive that glory for myself, but offer it up to God.”
Pyo In-bong, who debuted in 1992 as part of SBS’s first open recruitment class for comedians, enjoyed his heyday as a member of the group Teen Teen Five. He said, “I still have a long way to go, but I want to continue doing work that gives glory to God.”
